3:73/Tlok installed with SCT tune from bama on 2004 V6

Well finally had my gears and tlok install along with the bearing and installation kits. The guy did a good job in the install and the shop is a great places for modding mustangs. the SCT tuner I put on was the 87 Performance

But,

The PITA whine can be heard on deceaccerlation when I let off the gas between 70 and 50 mph and goes away after 5 seconds on decellaration.

I currently in the 500 miles break in period, so far 278 miles on it and the gears are Ford OEM and TLOK is Ford Racing and the bearings and install kit is from Motive. They use the motorcraft gear oil as well as Ford Racing Friction thing.

I do not know if the tune is causing this or the noise is gear whine as it howls noticiably. I could live with it if nothing is wrong and install to the best of it ability. I could vouch for the guy that did my install because he lets me watch the whole time and shows me the step by step process. I going to give them a call later on.

but would like to hear from you guys before proceeding and why do they whine?

Usually brand new gears whine, especcially if you are installing 3.73 and Tlock at the same time.. let it break in, and come back to us.... if it keeps whining after about 700 miles or so, Im talking noticably, then the i9nstall was off... usually means the dears are too tight, or it could be there too loose.. they have to be.. JUST RIGHT

Finish your break in period and if they're still whining then call the shop. I had 4.10s and a FR Tlok in my old V6 and they whined quite a bit but I never really let it bother me. I didn't follow the break in instructions (let it rip and had the tires spinning after I left the shop's parking lot) so that might have contributed to it but I think the install was a little off. Never had any issues with them aside from a little whining between 45 and 60mph.

will do, then. I drive alot on the highway but I am obeying the speed limit mostly 65 mph highway and 55 mph.

I give the mechanic a call just to let him know and will continue the breakin until 1000 miles if need be!

I assume you went to the dealer for OEM gears in 3.73?

no I went to Big Daddy Performance in south Jersey. They do all my mods. I go to JDM also when they aren't too booked. Good folks and honest

should I have went to the dealer since tlok and gears are ford oem for installation or do you mean if I bought it from the ford dealer? I actually got the gears from Stangmods.com which located a ford dealer that had them since it came in a ford geniune box.

I got done talking to the mechanic and he said that the howling noise when decerallerating is due to "gear float" which is nothing bad. The noise isn't loud or anything.

as for the performance i have to say that 373 and tlok should have been standard in our vehecile. and yeah it spins beautifully other then the supposiblily gear float.

exhaust well i have the pypes true dual exhaust. I do not recommend Pypes because there quality is horrible but the sound is good.

It's definitely not going to be the tune, as the whine is a mechanical sound made by the gears "breaking-in" as they're meshing together. Drive the car with normal/regular/sane driving for 500-1000 miles and it should go away just fine. If you are still having troubles, go to your installer and have the fluid changed/flushed for something slightly heavier in weight. This will help quiet them down.

I hope this helps!

Good luck!

Thank you all for the help. I let the installer know of this 2 days ago and he mention something about it is due to "gear float". and he mention the similiar ideas that chrisyoung mentioned

AMChrisYoung: the tune is great and I like it. I did not meant to bash Bama in anyway. I am new to the modding lifestyle and learning about all this to get knowledge

I could live with the whine if that's the case, but I don't want to be put in a situation where it will hurt my DD. the tlok and motive bearing and install kit, along with Ford OEM 3:73 is a huge improvement in traction and acceraltion and after 1000 miles I am dying to push it. and do 2 wheels burnouts

My sixxer is a test platform as I am getting new to the modding trend and plan on doing serious stuff when I purchase the 50th anniversay mustang and learning the performance tendancy & strategize so when I upgrade to the V8's in 2014, I have idea and knowlege on future goals
