Issues

My car has recently been knocking, fluctuating idle, sputtering, and would tend to die if I'm at a stop light for a while. So, I took of the upper intake manifold and where the Cylinder 6 is, there was some extreme gunk build up in the manifolds.

So, cleaned it out with Carb Cleaner to the best of my ability and now there's no more knock, no more idle fluctuation, no more detonating, but it still sputters. When stopped and under 2k rpm, it sputters even during acceleration, but then I get a burst of acceleration and it stops sputtering. Something tells me this issue has to do with air flow.

Could a clogged cat or exhaust component be what's causing this? Also, I've even replaced my EGR valve...

Any help is appreciated!

my GT had that issue...it turned out to be an upstream o2. couldn't hurt to pull yours then look at it. Not too expensive to replace either

Alrighty, I'll pull it first thing in the AM and hope that's the issue. It's doing it all the time now. Drove about 40 miles today, on the highway it was getting on my last nerve!

@dgt, lol

To check, should I pull the O2 Sensors themselves, or just unplug the connectors?

Disconnected the connectors, didn't have the time to pull out the sensors today. But, it ran like a charm disconnected. You, my friend, are a mustang genius!

It may also be the upstreams. Just def clears the air that it's my O2 sensors.

The car got a different motor early last year, since then, I've only put less than 20k miles on it.

So, that's not really necessary. Everything else is in good shape.

Id still check/replace them. My car was having the same issues as yours. New plugs and wires resolved the problem. When id have my car in cruise control on the highway, it would run smooth, until i went up an incline. The small increase in engine rpms would make my car idle and chug like a son of a gun. Also, when in reverse, it felt like it wanted to stall horribly.

It's not the plugs...

I just scanned it, here's my codes:
P0171 System too lean (bank 1)
P0174 System too lean (bank 2)
P0306 Cylinder 6 Misfire detected

the misfire could be the plug

as for the first two..it's unusual to see both banks go out at the same time. I would look at all the vacuum lines first...it can sometimes explain this
