New to forum.. wife and I debating on 2006 4 litre convertible.. Should we???

Somebody we know is selling their 2006 4 litre convertible. Its my wife's dream car. Car is mint and has 36,000 miles on it. It's pretty mint. I can get it for around $13,500 canadian.

First, not sure if this is a good deal.

2nd.... now that the 4 litre is no longer, should we just forget about it and wait a year till we can afford the newer 3.7 litre?

From what I'm reading on this forum, the 4 litre is not too popular as far as performance goes? also, there doesn't seem to be many aftermarket bolt ons to help it unless you spend many 1000's on a Vortek supercharger?

Thoughts and opinions much appreciated here.

thanks

Sorry, one more thing.

If we decide to purchase this Stang,

What things should we really check over and what are well known problems with the 06?

thanks

If your going to do performance, definitely wait for the 3.7. More hp to start with, 6 speed, just a newer car.

I'd personally wait , but that's my .02$

And welcome to mm

i forget how much more mustangs cost in canada....13,500 would put you in an '04 mach 1 or cobra down here..

as for your choice in car...it's a fairly decent v6. check all the basic things that should be checked. i don't know of any recalls but you might get more of a response in the 05-10 section.

also welcome to the forum

If you want your wife to smile every time she gets in the car, get hear a V8

But, if it is your wife's dream car, then go for it! Just make sure it's not a rebuilt title.

Ever heard the term "5.slow" well this = 4.slower

Canadian's pay to much for cars I see ...

But you know what, your wife will probably be perfectly happy with the power of the 4.0 so who cares. If its in good condition, you both "like" it. And thats a "good" price there, then go for it. As far as problems for those, not sure.

If your wife likes the body style then go for it... My fathers 08 is at 40k and no problems. The only thing that went out was the Alternator.

Like the guys alread said if you and your wife like it go for it its your car as for preformance
Cai, exhaust tune and gears is the basic stuff before you shell out money from more hp BUT if you want more power just save a little longer for the gt and you'll be way happier you get more bang for your buck from a modded 3v then the modded 2v (gt vs v6)

We checked out the 2006 today. It WAS looking good till I found overspray around the edging on the top of the passenger quarter panel and the hood had sanding marks in it. Obviously been in a pretty good accident.

Rode great. Wife liked it. We're still looking thou

Why a convertible in Canada?

Why not a convertible for anyone anywhere on earth?
1. Heavier
2. Weaker chassis/cowl shake
3. Slower - V6 automatic convertible is the slowest combination you can pick for a Mustang
4. Less secure - Anyone with a jack knife can trash your car and take your stuff
5. The whole roll over crash thing
6. Getting caught in the rain on the freeway with the top down
7. Having a bird shit on you while you are driving
8. The convertible top has to be replaced every 5 to 7 years
9. Convertible top destroys the lines of the car as designed
10. More interior noise whether the top is down

I've never understood why people want fabric roofed cars. I've seen many people buy them, enjoy it for a few weeks in the summer and then the top stays up pretty much thereafter.

Now that I've made my case, the choice of car is up to you. The 4 liter Mustangs have a lot of potential, even an automatic convertible. For many people, the V6 Mustangs offer plenty of passing power when needed. It should be noted that the 2005 up 4.6L GT has been overshadowed by the newer 5.0s but still stand out as very capable cars. They have more than enough power to drag around a fabric top and do it through an automatic slush box.

I'm just struggling to picture the thrill of driving a Mustang GT in a blizzard with the top down. As I remember it gets pretty cold in the Great White North. Perhaps it is the challenge of keeping the car on road while shivering. I'd have to say anyone that enjoys doing that has balls.

Good Luck!

1-10.

Not to mention a v6 convertible will pull on 5.0 verts... So i wouldnt say the "slowest" ever made. Verts come with extra bracing underneath the shell. Tops will last over 10 years easy! I can just up any car without using a jackknife. Doesnt ruin the shape of the car what so ever. More interior noise huh?
The rest are just stupid.

Oh you were right about it being heavier. That whole 125 pounds is just killer isn't it?

There were only 10. What rest are you talking about? The part you wrote about a V6 vert beating a 2011+ 5.0 vert was unbelievable. I'm calling you on this.

There are no published test results to back up your claim. There was no reason for insult either. Consider taking a deep breath before choosing to use a word like "stupid". A lot of people take that kind of thing personally.

Please feel free to prove that a stock V6 vert beat a stock 2011+ 5.0 vert in a published test. You could just drop it and save yourself hours of searching for an article that does not exist.

Your choice
