i dont think you can convert our engines to 24v without some SERIOUS modification and fabrication work. would just be easier to swap in a different engine with more power, or modify your current engine with say forced induction, a cam, headers, tuning.

do a split port swap (which is a lot easier compared to your first thought) and you'll have the same power
(i checked the specs on that 3.0...makes the same average power as a 99-04 so yep the split port would do just fine) |

Now at 172000 miles is it ok to go ahead an do a split port swap or would it cause damage.

Split port swap won't do any damage. How hard you drive it might. I personally wouldn't do all that work to an engine with that mny miles. Spend a few hundred more for a lower mileage 3.8 split port engine. I had one with 30k for $600 I could get a while back.

There is a V6 Mustang with 55,000 miles on it at the junkyard by me. It's where I got my T5 from. That engine has to be super tight with such low mileage.
