water pump/ front cover issue
last week i noticed some coolant on the ground and got the car on a lift and the water pump was leaking near the bottom so i got the parts to change it. removing the last bolt at the bottom and it started fine then got tougher. i noticed some corrosion on the other bolts so i sprayed some pb blaster and worked the bolts back and forth. it got easier and easier til the bolt came out. took off the pump and started cleaning the gasket off when i noticed a chunk of metal on the crank pulley. it was a piece of the front cover.
![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() the pump was aftermarket so previous work was done by a dumbass. so what are my options now? change the front cover or jb weld it back on? i was looking to do a motor swap down the road but right now im no where near ready to do it. |

i would replace the timing cover, its not difficult just time consuming
if you do decide to make sure you note where each bolt and stud came from as they are all different lengths as seen here ![]()

If the front cover is otherwise good it could probably be repaired by having the broken off piece welded back on and then helicoil the thread.

Should be good to get it welded or the like back on and be good. If ^^ has a spare cover I'd go that route. Or if you could find one for cheap I'd replace... would suck to just temp fix it and have it leak on you.

More pics upon request:
![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() $75.00 + shipping for just the cover +45.00 If you want the oil pump left on. Used. Obviously. Crank seal looks to be in good shape. (Ill get that old filter off either way lol) Needs a good cleaning too and old gaskets scraped off, thats a labor charge to, sure dont feel like doing that myself, plus Ive just strained my back this week at work lifting patients so im kinda on a light work load right now, beding over doing the fine cleaning wont be to fun on this piece. So yeah a labor charge will be needed to clean this up :p sorry but thats life. FYI paypal does charge a 3% transaction fee, and you'll need to add that to the fee so I dont take the cut ![]() Thats my up front offer. PM me please. |

+1. I broke a piece of my water pump off when I was taking my engine apart. Although my problem was hitting the water pump with a hammer to loosen it up. JB welded the broken piece back on and haven't gotten a bitchy call from the guy who bought the car

Cleaning the gaskets off of the timing cover and the water pump was a bitch. $131 for a new one doesn't seem like a bad deal if I were to do it again on a car with stock gaskets.

thanx for all the replys. my budget this month is very tight this month. im going to try to jb weld that small flat spot to hold it in place. as for as long term use the car is a salvage and does have gaps in the body but frame is straight so it would be a tough sell. so as soon as i get another dd im going to pull the stang off the road and make it a track toy. the car has 121k on it so whne the motor lets go i was planning on a gt/cobra swap. hopefully if i get this new job in two months i will be able it make it happen. reps for the pics/help!
