4.2l swap

I'm looking at the 4.2l stroker swap at precision engine.

I had some questions.

1. I feel like gas mileage is important because it lets me save money for other mods. So would I take a hit to gas mileage with this engine.

2. Also it says it comes with 250hp to 275hp.
What quarter mile times and hp would that probably run with everything else stock with a lightweight flywheel, CAI, gears, udp and tuner? Would it run with a 99-04 gt or even a 05-09gt?

3. And down the road how would this motor hold up to supercharging?

4. How much would my current v6 probably sell for out of a 99 with 120,000 miles, and how much would this swap cost?

Thanks for all the help.

And if 97stanger is out there, I hear he knows a lot about this engine.

Why not just get a v8? I'm not arguing. Just asking

Thanks. Well I would, but I think the money saved on gas and insurance which I calculated is about $500 a year for gas and $600 a year for insurance and I plan on keeping the car at least a few years, the money saved would easily pay for the stroker kit and some bolt ons, which make me faster than a v8 and saves the environment... But if the stroker kit gives me a hit on gas mileage I would take the s/c route and still be way ahead of a v8.

At least that's my thought process. I will miss the v8 sound and feel though...

Sorry for writing an essay...

Yes stroking will affect your mpg.

What motor would you supercharge?

And unless you'd stroke it yourself, that's a ton of money put on install and build.

I get better mpg in my v8 than my accord v6 on the highway.

It doesn't happen do be a 1998-2002 coupe? Cause I have a 2000 coupe v6 and am definitely looking to get away from fwd and autos. Love the car otherwise.

Back to the original question though I'd probably just throw on a bolt on supercharger. I know that effects mpg but I don't think it kills it.

Other than that is there any way to swap in a v8? Because insurance is whats really gonna kill me...

I know plenty of built GT's making 5mpg more then me.
V6 mustangs are SHIT on mpg... some are lucky and get it good most dont.

highway w/ light foot I get 20mpg out of my N/A build.

Im just gonna tell you this.
Turbo.
Buy a turbo kit, install, do exhaust, get tune. Be happy.
N/A builds are worthless on a V6 will barely be keeping up or beating a STOCK 99-04 GT. Couple of small mods and they've beat you.

So either:
Save money and dont do shit to this car
or
Turbo it

Google and do research for anything else you want to know on this subject. TONS AND TONS of info out there and its not hard to find at all.

Welcome to MM.

If you had a blower and always stayed out of boost, your mpg will be fine. Although once most people get blown, they can't seem to stay out of boost If ya know what I mean.

As for camming its a ok bost of hp over stock hp ur car makes around. 170hp at the wheels you'll get at max or average tuned rwhp of mid to low 230hp...now a stock gt makes around 230^240 hp and in the upwards of 280tw and you don't and won't make tht with a camed 3.8 or 4.2...now if mustangmike wasn't a tard :p and got his tq numbers before leavinf we would know his tq #...dontget me wrong if you can came ur car cheaply its a "nice" street car but just a bone stock m112 on a 3.8 will blow ur doors off and so of a stock gt but all I'm saying is if you can get parts cheap and do it ur self like I am you will have a denetly fast ...over stock lol 12v lol

camming a stock car alone wont gain much of anything FYI

P&P H/I would probably be the #1 power mod other then power adders

And their sensor at the dyno could not get a good reading and never picked up my rpm to get a tq reading ...

Incorrect.

Throwing a random cam usually wont net much gains. You need to spec a cam for your specific build. Even getting a custom cam on a stocj motor will net gains worth it. After all, how much do people
spend on mods that really net 2-3hp. For 500 bucks you could have one of the best bangs for your buck. Granted p and p'd heads wouldn't hurt.

I got a custom cam ground for cheaper than the ssms cams are....

I got a cheaper custom cam also, and im not really speaking of $:hp

Im saying if you take two stock V6s and did a full porting job to one, and just a cam to the other. Id bet the P&P one will get better gains.
Its great to increase all the ability with that cam, but if you can get that air to flow in like it wants to... well it was a waste. (somewhat)

Its all about the air flow and who blows the best
