Gas mileage suddenly dropped. Possibly from intake?
I have a 95 v6 mustang, auto. A few months ago I bought an intake for it. The CAI from Americanmuscle. But I didn't get any tuner or anything. My gas mileage has seemed to have gotten really bad since then. I'm not sure if it's just a coincidence and something else is wrong. But I'm curious if it could be that the computer is just dumping fuel in because it's getting a lot more air now.
Anyone know? |

it won't be due to a tune or because of the amount of air flow...if it does have anything to do with the intake it will be due to something like you had accidently damaged the MAF sensor during install...other then that it's most likely unrelated looking at the time line....when was the last time you've
-replaced spark plugs -fuel filter |

I bought the car back in June. I haven't replaced anything on it yet, nor do I know when anything was last replaced. I checked a spark plug today, it looked fine.

well you have 5 other plugs....so take the 20 minutes and pull them all...and if you have $15 then go ahead and replace them. I bet they could use it even if they "look" ok to you...also the fuel filter is a cheap replace as well...usually around $10 and is great to replace every 50k miles

my fuel filter has never been changed and i have 90xxx miles. i get around 230 if im lucky to a full tank.
would a filter affect it that bad? my oil is up to date, spark plugs havent been changed in about 30k miles. and my tps sensor has low voltage but i keep it in low rpms alot. |

Did you really get 5-10 better mpg from an oil change?
I bought my car over the summer, my mechanic gave it two thumbs up, and no problems so far. I'm only getting 15mpg now. I do no highway driving though, so that may be why. How much highway driving do you do to get 20-25mpg?

Thanks for letting me know that.
I can't really hope for much more than 15mpg, I drive a lot in school zones, neighborhoods, and stuff like that, and never on the highway. (I don't spend that much on gas anyway, so it's ok)

You should be getting more than 15mpg unless you floor it all the time.
Fuel filter will decrease your mileage if its got a clog or real dirty. Spark plugs also if they are corroded and not producing adequate spark. As mentioned your MAF sensor can affect mileage as well if not operating properly. I'd get the CAI off and inspect the MAF, throttle body, and IAC. Clean them up, and do the other things suggested and let us know.
