There's a slight ticking noise coming from the engine it gets faster when the rev is up. Any suggestions?

+1 get your mid pipe then manifolds off and inspect them. Most likely passenger side, but check both.

Maybe it's coming from a pulley and you think it's the engine? I'd try some 91 octane and run that through, see if it helps. Sounds like a timing issue.

it is safe for now. but if you let it get worse it can start to throw wrong codes to the computer and cause your car to run like trash

You'll be losing a bit of back pressure, probably not enough to cause damage to anything else. You'll be losing fuel mileage, which only hurts your wallet. Over time the crack will grow, so these symptoms will only be getting worse, until one day "BOOM" and it will completely separate and sound like a tractor.

Not hard to get the exhaust stuff off. Machine or exhaust shop will weld it back up for $25-$40.

Haha, mine did this over the summer, kept thinking it was a lifter then one day BOOM! worst 15 mile drive home from work ever, lol.

Only thing it will do is over time the crack will grow and it can throw off your o2 sensors causing you to run rich.

Let us know how it ends up....

Whats wrong with 91 octane? It knocked pinging issues on both my cars. Running one tank of it shouldn't hurt anything. I didn't mean through the pulleys lol I meant just a tank of 91 gas to see if it clears up any pinging.

Used 91 one time didnt do anything my car isn't tuned for that, also never had ping with 83 oct. Running a hight octane will not help me, I knew the exhaust manifold would be the culprit because I smack the shit out of my exhaust and it so happend to have all the symptoms right after that.

Also if it was a true knock or ping 91 octane would be a band aid wouldnt help anything

Well your mustang is a slightly newer model, I've seen alot of older cars relieved of pinging from 91 though.

v6man, I know what you were trying to suggest, however, this issue is 99% a cracked manifold, so the 91 octane would only be wasting $ on the additional gas price. Now, if he checked the exhaust and it was all fine, then maybe that would be a suggestion to determine if it was indeed inside the motor. Start cheap is my idea, always.

OP, shorties are a waste on these cars. The stock manifolds are pretty close to shorties as far as flow, so really you're adding a shiney paperweight. Either go for Long Tube headers and matching midpipe/new mufflers, or simply get your factory manifolds welded. I wouldn't spend the money on getting OEM replacements, just have it/them welded, much cheaper and the same result.

If deadset (or wanting more info) on aftermarket exhaust, do a search, there's a ton of threads out there on that topic.
