It's not all that easy and requires some special tools.
For comparison purposes, I paid about $1200 to have mine T5 rebuilt and a new clutch including remove/install from car. You can find used T5s on ebay and craigslist too. Ford racing still sells new heavy duty T5s that any transmission shop can modify to work with our V6 cars as well. That would probably be more like $1500. A national brand warranty backed rebuilt transmission will cost over $2000 out the door. In my area that number is more like $2500. All the big numbers made my grinding gears tolerable for years. It was not until the car was paid off that I had the "monster in the box" eradicated. Thanks!
