Like they said, if you plan on drag sra, if you would rather do circuit racing, and if its a daily driver, I've read irs is way to go, tho it can't handle as much HP stock, but it can be upgraded, I decided on irs and its getting swapped out this weekend, it is also out of a 01 cobra like your donor

In preparation for doing my cobra swap, can I swap the IRS early and have it still compatible with my drive-shaft and 3.8 auto in the meantime? It's my dd until summer.

That I'm not sure on since you have a 7.5 rear, if you already had a 8.8 in it, then yes

Swap the driveshaft too and you will be fine. Are you a 5speed or auto right now?

I'm auto v6, going to Cobra (yes, yes and yes are the answers to any and all questions regarding this.)

Currently I'm running bone stock (driveshaft, rear-end 7.5)

I've heard that an 8.8 will work fine for the cobra. But the cobra also comes stock with an IRS.

So my dilemma is, if I need to swap the driveshaft to run the IRS, why not just throw in the 8.8 and call it a day?

Is my assumption incorrect that my driveshaft on the 7.5 will work on the 8.8?

Well, a gt 8.8 is solid axle, the cobra's are still 8.8 just irs, the 99-01 were 28 spline for the half shafts, 03-04 were 31, so if a regular 8.8 will bolt right up, then a cobra will too, I'm just not familar with 99-04 v6s, the cobra upper mounts will mount in where the gt's had traction shocks, does yours already have these? If so it should be a peice of cake, ill be able to answer more questions after tommrow night, my sra is getting swapped for 01 cobra, oh one last thing, for 03-04 swap you also have to change the u joint or something like that

Well so far everything lines up, both rears are out, we are in process of switching diffs, and changing gears, this is probally the hardest job I've done, and honestly its not bad, just time consuming
