I'm with guy who said you probably don't need a whole new motor...I'm wondering what the true issue is. My car 'died' on me a cpl months back, I did a head gasket swap and she's run strong since. In that case it wouldn't be as exspensive to just fix the motor you already have. Wonderful when you can do the work yourself, doesn't seem like you are able/want to.
backwards. 99-00 is EXTERNALLY balanced, hence the large balancer behind the crank pulley. 01-04 is INTERNALLY balanced, hence a smaller balancer.

So basically I assume I can get that money back when I sell it.
No one will ever buy your mustang for 8K lol sorry but you won't be getting more than 5k for a sixxer even with a brand new engine.
It would look more like this
Mustang value with no engine = <1K
Similar mustangs with 83K miles = 3K
Mustang with new engine = 5-5.5K
I got mine with 70K miles, no damage what so ever, all it needed was new tires for 3K

If you want a used engine here are two local to the SF bay area.

2000 MUSTANG V6 ENGINE

I would say if you plan to keep it go with a rebuilt. If you plan to sell it put in a
used engine.

Thanks, I believe that's correct; other sources agree.

Thanks dude, I'll contact those guys tomorrow.

Honestly, lol, I can't decide if I want to keep it or sell it. I just started a new thread to get some advice.

If you like the car I'd put a rebuilt engine in it and keep it.

That was my original plan.

However, people on these forums convinced me that going with a used engine is the best option.

Rebuilt = 3K
Used = 1.5K

So i could potentially replace the engine twice (if necessary).

So, I just called LKQ Corp to get some quotes on the engine.

Here's what I've got:
Used:
97K = $675.00
72K = $775.00

Parts & Labor Warranty (for Used):
6months = $100
12months = $175
24months = $230

Re-manufactured (includes 3yr/100Kmi warranty):
0mi = $1050.00

Labor:
$700.00

Transport (from LKQ):
$30.00

My friends dad owns a car shop and they actually just purchased an engine online from LKQ Corp and when they put it in it didn't work. So if I go used, I'd definitely buy the parts & labor warranty.

So I guess my choice is between:
72K Engine + 2yr Parts & Labor Warranty + Labor + Transport = $1735.00
0K Reman Engine + 3yr Parts & Labor Warranty + Labor + Transport + Core charge = $2790.00

Do these numbers sound right?

If taken care of, how long will the 72K mile engine run?

An engine with 72K miles if it's still in good condition might last another 50k-100k miles.
The Ford 3.8L engine is a reasonably good engine but by 100k miles it may well require some repairs such as stem seal replacement and new valve guides.

If you plan to keep the car I would think a rebuilt engine would be a better value.

I don't know anything about LKQ.

What is wrong with the engine you have? Does it still turn i.e. not seized. It might be better to have a local machine shop rebuild your engine rather than going with an unknown source.

I dont know. My car 3.8 has 160k miles and my brother 3.8 has 230k miles and we both never out a dime into engine repairs as of yet. Both are still running strong
