Blower Research

Looking for boost. I've decided that I'd rather get a root style blower. I've been looking into the m90 since it basically bolts right up. Picked up a m90 in good condition in the junk yard along with a few supporting parts, but I still have a ways to go. So with all my spare time I'm spending NOT installing the super charger my imagination has been going crazy. I've come up across a few questions that I haven't found in my internet searches.

1. Does the blower NEED a separate belt? I feel like the overall effects would be more efficient if it were all on the same belt.

2. Kinda stems from #1, but can I just swap the longer snout from a different m90 onto the super coupe m90? Would that enable it to line up with the accessory belt, meaning I just need to find the correct sized belt rather than swap all the sc pulleys and brackets. Anyone ever gone this route?

3. At what rate does the bore of the heads and pistons change? The gm's with m90 super chargers, l67 3.8l engine, have forged internals very similar specs to the ford 3.8 (90 deg v6, similar stroke and displacement) but the bore is .2 more. Can worn down forged l67 pistons and rods work in our engines? The reason I ask is that they are A LOT more boosted l67's and they are A LOT easier to find in the junk yard than super coupes. so just in case I can't find a good sc, is this an alternative?

how do you plan to run a second belt? Going to re-manufacture your crank pulley?

Just swap the brackets, you will save yourself a lot of headache

no, GM parts don't fit our cars...

Belt slip, not having to worry about throwing belts, if you do throw a belt oh well your accessories still work, etc.

I'm actually thinking about running one belt. The gm m90's have a longer snout and I got one in the junk yard. I would mock it up to see of it all lines up but I'm missing the intake manifold. But if it does line up I would just need to find a longer accessory belt which shouldn't be too hard in theory. Makes sense in my head, just wondering if anyone tried it before cuz I've never seen anything other than the direct sc swap onto our v6's. There are some pretty crazy custom v8 m90 applications I've seen on google tho, made me wonder what else is possible

If your going to spend time to make something for the GM m90 work your better off making an m112 work.

The thing about that is that there's quite a selection of m90 cars in the junk yard, like the super coupe, older cougar's, pontiac grand prix and a few buick models. I have easier, more affordable access to m90 parts than going with a custom m112 set up. If I had it my way, hell yea bigger the blower the better

If you don't stick with the supercoupe setup anything you do is going to be a custom setup and not really in the "affordable" category.

This is what I had in mind only with the m90... I feel like I will save a lot of $ not buying brackets etc and not needing custom work. All I need is one more tensioner like the one this guy has bolted to the power steering bracket...

No, that's not mine just a pic I found. But that's the belt set-up I'm aiming for, just with the bolt on m90 parts

I did grab the inter cooler too. I'm missing the heads, rotating assembly, intake manifold and fuel injectors. Hitting crazy rays in the am

Not to thread hijack, but quick question. I picked up my car yesterday and was talking to the machinist at Street Lethal, and he told me that the m112 is a bad idea.
Said they have tuned a couple of them and the quality on the intake plates is terrible, and the charge temps are way too high, couldn't tune the car very well due to the temps.

He actually recommended doing a m90 over an m112 if I wanted a roots, but said procharger or turbo would be better in the long run.

Thoughts?

First problem with my build: Snout from gm m90 doesn't bolt right onto the ford housing. I was able to get the blades from the same blower in the junk yard that I got the snout. They should be able to slide right into the ford m90 housing. Should work now, but I'll post some pics later.

So What do you thing about the gm pistons, rods and maybe even the forged crank from a typhoon or syclone? That would also stroke it to 4.3 right? If they fit that is

If you look in the dictionary under thread jack, they would probably use this as the example jk jk

I think the reason he said that is that the m90 has an intercooler, m112 doesn't. I'm going for the m90 because most of the parts can be found in the junk yard and I do the work myself. Keeping cost down
