It's not all about Horsepower

While we all know that more power equals better acceleration and top speeds from you vehicle. Parts like those for our V6 Mustangs are hard to find that will give us those amazing power number so commonly found with our V8 brothers and sisters. Though this is the most common approach to going fast there is another method that includes a variety of benefits. WEIGHT REDUCTION! This allows the car to accelerate better, improve handling, and with enough weight cut a bit of a gas mileage improvement as well. Well hoods, trunks, and front fenders are generally the most common ways vehicles are using lighter pieces, you can get doors and other lighter interior pieces as well.

*IMPORTANT NOTICE* These sites I have found include power adders and weight reduction pieces for Mustangs from 87-10. I will have them posted next time once I clean up the list a little. The fiberglass doors on some of these sites say to use only lexan windows with the doors meaning they will be fixed in place and can't be rolled down. I am planning on writing to the companies I know and seeing if some of the door models will retain the ability to use standard glass and function. Will update as I hear back from them.

I concur with that statement.

I can vouch for that, when I drive alone in my Mustang I notice it is a hell of a lot faster than when I drive with 4 people in it. Acceleration is effected even more by this, in my experience it's like a different car when I'm in it alone than with 3+ people in it.

Yes and I probably should add to this that several easy ways to reduce weight without spending any money are: pulling out the rear seat and not using a rear delete kit, pulling out the spare (I do not recommend that if you still plan on using it as a street car with inflated tires), pull out the sound deadening material in the trunk and cabin, removing accesories like the A/C, radio, speakers, and related wires, passenger seat, plastic interior covering panels, etc. While this is more than extreme for most applications its just some ideas.

Like 01Lightning said its very notice with the 3.8L compared to the 4.6L or 5.0L

I have done some weight reduction and is handling and accelerating better. The downside is you will increase more NVH.

Best thing I could tell ya mustangmike! is that by going through the links there might be a few new options available. Those are all of the links I have atm for everything from brakes to turbo and supercharger kits. Personally I plan on getting the smoothed fiberglass dash from the second link more for the fact that it doesn't have the ugly factory rippling.

Yes gutting the interior is only to be used on a car that plans on seeing a lot of track time or for those who have no friends lol

But I will give you reps for the post. It is educational to most on here

You do not have to gut the interior to take out weight. You can go lightweight bumper supports, hood, k-member, driveshaft, AC delete if you want, battery and rims.

That's stuff you do after you get power.

Why not do it first to see if you can feel a difference in the way the car performs and then add power.
