2002 v6 auto won't upshift or gain any acceleration

just like the title i was driving fine this morning, parked the car and restarted it, and now i'm having the hardest time accelerating to 10, only thing i noticed is there is a weezing noise coming from behind the engine and the car refuses to accelerate or upshift. anyone can help me out with any possible solutions.

also if this helps, yesterday i noticed when it shifted into the final gear it would rev up before upshifting on its own and then shift into final gear.

an another note, i just hoped in it now, now it won't shift into D, 2, 1 or R. so it won't go anywhere.

Dude sounds like tranny/clutch, but I'm guessing tranny. Did you check your fluid?

1. check fluid
2. torque converter is bad
3. might need to take it to have it serviced

well it's dark out right now so i can't see anything, but i been reading that if tranny fluid is too low the torque converter won't even spin and engage, cuz before it would move but now it won't even get out of gear. definately will check tranny fluid once i find a flash light.

transmission fluid seems to be a darkish brown, smells like burnt rubber, and the entire dip stick is caked in the stuff.

Sounds like your TC/pump is toast. I hate to be the bearer of bad news but I don't think there's any way around that. One of my automatics bit the dust and the trans fluid was clean as a whistle, no burnt smell. If it's to the point it smells burnt and is a darkish brown, it is long gone.

You're going to want to start looking for a new transmission.

well i guess it is. i changed the tranny fluid today, thought it was just bad fluid or low fluid but even then no movement, not even that click/thump noise that tells me it changes gears. so should i replace it with an auto or would it cost too much to get a manual?

also if i did get a manual what model manual do i get?

get another auto man. a 5-speed swap is going to set you back quite a bit with all the extra parts needed. And your front pump is probly gone. Either way, get the TC looked at, and get the tranny you have now rebuilt. shoudlnt be to bad $$ wise. If it is, try to find a JY tranny maybe. or CL is usually good for em.

i know this thread was dead for a while but before i decided to buy a new tranny i changed the tranny fluid and filter, and it seemed to work but after a bit of soft driving and WOT to 60 the tranny went back to wanting to die on me ( and did at my house) so should i get a whole new tranny or is there something else that could be the culprit? oh and reverse is the only thing that is working oddly enough.
