Wire help
hey guys, so im finally going to install my ready remote do it yourself remote start kit on friday and i have a pretty good grasp on how to install it. I am having custom tunes made to bypass pats so that will be all set. The question i have is, can i use suitcase connectors to tap into the running wires in the ignition harness and the other harnesses? also what gauge wire are they to i get the right size connectors? thank you!

"Suitcase connectors" are the ones that clamp shut, correct? I don't see any problem using them. As for wire gauge, I believe 90% of the wiring your car should be roughly 18g. And if you have a manual, don't forget a neutral safety.

I wouldn't use scotchlocks (suitcase connectors), they can create high resistance in the wire and expose it to corrosion. A solder joint with heat shrink tubing is the correct way to tap into the wires if you want a low resistance trouble free connection.

ok, im weighing my options on how to go about it now. I might pick up some suitcase connectors just to have on hand just in case also. So i need 18g connectors? i think they are in ranges like 14-18 and 18-22

ive been reading on a few sits with other cars that the ignition wire harness is generally in the 12-14 gauge as opposed to 18g, can anyone confirm this for mustangs? i just want to make sure i get teh right size suitcase connectors to insure a good connection
