So the wrong spark plug was in my engine

I changed my spark plugs and I see i had Autolites 765 in them. Now I cross reference on Autolite site and these are not even close to being the correct plug for 2001 3.8....

I'm pissed now.

person i bought the car from did not know what he was doing

Can anything bad come from using wrong plugs??

As I said in your other thread, 765's match the specs of the recommended 605's. The only difference is thread length. Both plugs will work just fine in a 99-04 V6.

Yeah man, your boned, new engine needed, dont bother with new ones. jk, no harm shall fall upon your car. just get the right ones, thread lenghts may be different between a 605 and 765 but their such things as heat range and such that get factored in, they would not have made so many different plugs if you could thrown any old plug in there and be find LONG TERM.

The 605's and 765's are both heat range 5. Like I said, identical specs besides thread length, which isn't an issue in this application, as both will work.

Nice to know about the thread length, got to looking into 4.2 and 3.8 plugs and the thread length was quite different ! was hoping to not get the long one and the piston hit it lol

Plug reach and thread length are two different things here. Thread length doesn't necessarily correlate with plug reach.

What?
The reach of spark plug is the length of metal threads at end of plug. The correct plug reach very important to proper engine operation.

The "reach" of a spark plug is the distance from the seat to the end of the shell. This includes both the threaded and unthreaded portions of the shell. The thread length is not necessarily correlated to the reach. Yes, reach is very important.

The thread length is "correlated" to the reach. If the thread length is too long, the spark plug lay into the cylinder too much and run the risk of hitting the head of the piston.

Apparently I'm talking to a wall here. A full thread plug can have the same reach as a partial thread plug, while having two different thread lengths. This is a common occurrence in the Mod-motor world.

And that has what to do with anything here? I only mentioned the modular engine as an example in which thread length and reach are often non-exclusive of one another. You do know that the sky is blue right?

My posts are going to be as short and to the point as possible for a bit. Typing with two broken fingers isn't particularly fun. As I said, I was using the modular engine as an example, it doesn't have a bearing on the topic at hand.
