engine problems have returned

so about 2 months ago i rebuilt my rear with a tlok and 3.73 gears and got a sct flash tuner from americanmuscle.com

after going back and forth about how the tune was making a slight tick/rattle from the engine i was told by a fellow member, dont remember who, to retard my global spark by 2 or 3 degrees and i did thar and for a while it was fine then in the end i currently ended up at -5 degrees on global spark. fast forward about 1 month and a half to earlier today i was on a back road doing about 50 in 5th doing about 1600-1700 rpms mabey a little more went to put it to the floor and all of a sudden the tick/rattle is back but this time its was EXTREMELY loud and almost a border line knock

i then pulled out my phone to record and well it came close to the noise its around 12secs in the vid youll hear it

i keep changing the timing but yet after a while it comes back

brand new spark plugs 1500 mmiles ago motorcraft ones btw
brand new k&n drop in filter..old cone one was dirty as hell so swapped it thinking it was starving for air
um....brand new alternator well refabbed one new batter also

so i know the spark is good
and im runing on mobile 87 oct

heres the vid

How many miles do you have on your engine?
Does it do this at idle?
Can you 'feel' it through the car/gas pedal/transmission?
You could try reloading your tune?

I would pull your plugs and check them anyways they may still tell you something.

Your pinging (detonating) its not really a problem with the engine itself, rather the fuel. When was the last time you had your fuel filter and plugs changed? Did you recently fill up the tank?

Revert your car back to the stock tune and take it for a drive. If it doesn't do the sound then your probably having some detonation due to either bad gas, weak plugs, or not enough fuel reaching the engine due to an old fuel filter

Note: I had the same problem, so I switched my platinum plugs to some NGK coppers, new fuel filter, and filled up with some Mobile 1 premium 91 octane gas and it fixed the issue. Call up bama and have them fix your tune, you got too much timing as well

I went back and forth to stock tune in the very begining when the problem first occured and on stock tune its fine
Going on 137/138k miles
Spark plugs are under 1 oil change old (1500miles)
Fuel filter I have no idea how old it is I haven't touched it
Air filter is k&n and its a fairly new drop in cone filter

I filed up my tank last Wednesday and I was at 1/4 tank so I threw 10 buxks of fuel from pilot in. Org had mobile gas

Yup you have the same problem I did, what kind of plugs do you have? Also change the fuel filter since you've never touched it (it's literally a 10 min job with a $6 fuel line disconnect tool). Wouldn't doubt it is the original that came from factory. Don't worry your cars not kicking the bucket, mine is at 136,xxx too.

Dumb question, but you are running the appropriate octane for your tune right?

Hell mine's at 150+ on stock everything except for replacement plugs and wires from autolite. I should really look into a new fuel filter/pump. I can hear it while driving around.

6ixer, you could look into that as well....fuel pump might be taking a shit and not supplying enough fuel.

I would confirm this first. Contact bama if needed.
Also I would def go back to stock tune. And next time I wouldn't adjust things like that on the tune w/o contacting the tuner first. (Not SCT, Bama)

This, word of advice don't mess with your tunes setting unless you know what your doing, otherwise you risk doing some damage. Revert to stock until you have your tune fixed. Pinging can cause damage to the engine over time

Replace fuel filter, run 89 octane gas see what happens. Also try running a can of seafoam (reason why I suggest that is because on a older engine like ours, they have a decent amount of carbon build up. This carbon will heat up when the engine is hot which will cause your gas to ignite prematurely. Seafoam will remove some of this build up) also, fill up and add a bottle of either Lucas octane booster or NOS octane booster, these work wonders for me

Note: don't use the octane boosters since your running an 87 octane tune, there's no point as you can just run 89 instead. (I have to use them sometimes because I run a 91 octane tune )

adding to what you said my gf's dad and brother and law both listned to it and they said sence its starting to tick at dile and it never has plus a really hard idle at stock tuning they said
1 seafoam and change fuel filter
2 injector cleaner
3 check fuel rail and injectors
4. check lifters see if there sticking

If its doing it at idle then it's worse then simple pinging... Might be a good idea to inspect the lifters and heads (I hope it's not a valve tick or anything else as serious), to be safe. Also seafoam and and do maintenance to the fuel system like was suggested.

Note: if you absolutely have to drive the stang use the stock tune, don't run the custom tune until the problem is fixed

Bump/update

Pulled car into garage an poped the hood
Started with the possibility of anything wrong with electircal
Now what I'm about to say is indeed stupid but we had nothing else to test with
With the car un and running my dad unplugges one by one the plug/wires from the coil pack to the spark plug. When he unplugged all of em one at a time and then re plugged it in upon unplugged them the engine started to lower in rpms....well duh one less cly running
My car norm idles at around 1000rpms when unplugged the rpms dropped about 250/300ish rpms..noticable

Well when he unplugged the wire from the coil pack that lead to cly 2 nothing happened not idle change no nothing but when he unplugged all six one at a time each cly made a spark noise so we know there's juice going from the pack to each cly

Now to double check it was the wire
On the coil pack we swaped let's say cly 1 and 2 and did the same on the spark plug end...so its was not effecting the firing order just swapped wires

Cly 2 still no response

So to me and my dad that elimiates an electricle problem he has his money on a clogged injector which would be cly 2 if that's the case then obv id replace all 6 sence id have the top end off to replace em...he says there's still a chance that its a bent rod semi sticky lifter but its prolly the injector

Any other thoughts and if its an injector and I replace all 6 instead of getting stock ones can I go up to I think its 24lbs injectors but can my stock fuel pump handle it

I'm asking for cam build
