Engine swap? Can you swap a 99v6 for a 98 GT engine?
So heres the situation i need another rear end and im wanting to put the 8.8 in, and i found a guy with a 98 mustang gt thats been totaled. I can probably get it for a couple hundred more than just buying the rear end and im tempted to do this because my engine has 235000 miles and sometimes makes a small rattling noise ive been told its a valve rattling?? Well anyways can this be done? What all would need to be done to put the V8 from the 98 into my 99 V6? Thanks guys really learning alot on here.

well, the rear end will be too short to start. Unless you get some wheel spacers your tires are gonna look sucked in.
the engine swap is possible as long as you have the full car on hand. Lots of stuff to swap over. Basically swap the motor, wiring harness, ECU, gauge cluster, PATS box, ignition switch, transmission (if a manual since the GT will be T-45 while you are a T-5)

^yeah all that, plus radiator, fan and coolant overflow...alot of work, you'll also be swapping over the ps reservoir and ps lines...

Please tell me your joking, i shure hope its not, but you dared me so i gotta ask how do you know hahah. But yea i guess a ticking rattling wold be the best description, it doesnt give me any problems when say im on the hw going 70 but if im on a street going a few mles an hour and acelerating i can hear it, but its very minor right now. How long do you think it will last like that? and what woulda caused it?

You probably just have a lifter tick. Its hard to diagnose with the limited info and not having a good quality video of it. Hint hint.
Honestly swapping to a 1998 motor will be a waste of time. I would just swap in another 3.8 or 4.2 if your on a tight budget. Agian that is my opinion.

A 99-04 GT will net more horsepower as well. Either swap you will be swapping a lot. If you want to swap a v8 in then toss in a mark viii motor. Wont involve any more work than the Mustang motors and it is DOHC. They go cheap at the scrapyards as well

It came out of a Mark VIII, LOL. It's a Lincoln. Basically has a detuned Cobra motor, with an aluminum Teksid block. With a good set of cams this motor can turn some heads.

Honestly, I say go for the GT swap for now & if u want more power later, THEN look into the Mark. But so far as this goes, it depends on whether you're doin the work yourself or not =\ If you are, then great! It'll cost you the price of a wrecked GT. If not, any shop is gonna charge you a couple grand. Even me, doing it in my driveway would charge somebody at least 1200 for this job. On the other hand, if youre doing it yourself, I support you 100%. I wish I could find a complete wrecked GT when i needed it. Lol

what part of NC are you in? you will more than likely not be able to do it. In NC you can't swap motors unless they came in the car from the factory. Hours of research on this topic has led me to the conclusion that you can only swap in a motor from a 1999 mustang gt.

i had a pinging rattleing noise fromt eh right side of my engine. heres the key difference to your porblem and mine. under normal crusing speed as in when i kept my throttle constant and at idle there was nothing no noise but...BUT when under accleeration or under load (like low rpms and you put the pedal to the floor) its pinged...well mainly made a rattle sound...which i would discribe as a valve rattle well fast foward to a month later to chris mas eve i started my car up...no problem drove to the store....came out started the car my girlfriend dodnt close the door right away so when i started it i heard and felt the cars idle...its was loping to the extreme and the right side exhuast sounded....not right. day later i did a compression test cly 1 AND 2 had abs NO psi but cly 3 4 5 and 6 had 90psi HEAD GASKET so now the last 2 days well 95% of yesturday i spent tearing down my engine to the bare block...well everything above the block came off all wires came unpluged upper lower intake egr heater bracket...ect everything from the deck up came off just for a head gasket i just sent my heads out today ill be getting the gasket kit from autozone thats like 184.00 and asume my heads are fine thats it if not i need a brand new head....lol the only worry is about my head is sence both cly had no compression and the gasket cracked/frayed on the part were it lays on top of the cly wall of 1 and 2 that when the intakegas and fuel went to ignite that it opused it between the clys and ignited inbetween the cly and possibly burnt up stomhing.......the valve on cly one looks extremly black again it could be a simple rocker arm sticking or w/e but i had a simple ping/tick under the hood and ik it was a gasket but i was hoping it could hold oput longer.....and three days ago she finally let go and its was no obvious what happened
