Wheel Bearings

Suggestions on which route to go? Going to be doing all four corners. 3 of the 4 have never been replaced...150k. I'm leaning towards going with full hub assemblies unless someone has substantial argument for just getting the bearings and having them pressed out/in.

Advance Auto Parts: Search Results for wheel bearing - front

6er I'd assume you know this since you're an insider there, Moog piece that much better than the other, cheaper hub assembly?

Also, which for the rears? I see online that Advance doesn't carry full assemblies for the rear. Probably getting this done next weekend since it'll be a celebration tomorrow. Help away!

The bearing are not serviceable, you have to get the full hub. It's only like $40 bucks a piece though.

I just looked at that link, it appears the bearings are separate, but unless they are different from the GT, they are not.

I believe the rears are serviceable but the fronts will need full hubs.

Was looking to get full hubs anyhow for fronts, didn't seem the full hubs for rear available. Questioning whether the extra $20ish is worth it for the Moog pieces for fronts.

I personally wouldn't pay the extra seeing as how the Driveworks has good reviews and the Moog ones don't have any reviews. 6er works at Advance, might want to shoot him a PM and see if he's heard anything good or bad about the Moog hubs.

Fronts, go with the least expensive ones. You wont have any issues.
They will be good for another 100k.

How bout rears? Just get the bearings? I'll have to read up on the Hayne's on those as far as install.

Sweet, how tough to get old ones out, new in? For my girl's focus I had to take the brake drums to a shop to have the wheel bearings pressed out/in.

You'll have to remove the rear calipers, brackets and rotors, pull the diff cover, remove the axles, use a seal puller to remove the axle seals which will need to be replaced, use a slide hammer to remove the old bearings, use a bearing driver to press the new bearings in to your axle housing, tap in the new seals, reinstall the axles, reinstall the diff cover, fill the rear with gear oil, and reinstall your rear brakes.

This is an easy 1hour job in a shop if you have the tools and are familiar with the job but it can be a major task for an weekend hobbyist who has to go out and rent or buy tools.

Seal puller should be only thing I don't have, and my pops might. I've had the differential open before to replace oil but never removed axles. I enjoy the new things, not many of them left at this point!

probably do the fronts this weekend then regroup and plan the rears, just imagining 153k miles of bearing use they could probably stand to get changed out.
