2004 40th Aniv. Edition V6 Mustang.....

My son and I just picked up an 04 Mustang. We are not sure if it is the 3.8 or 3.9L engine as it has the 40th Aniv. Edition Badge. Anyway, we are having some trouble finding aftermarket engine mods. Everything seems to be for the GT, Corba or Shelby. Could anyone help out with some links and advice. Both of us are new to this and want to learn together. Neither of us have any clue about engines but are extremely willing to learn. Thanks in advance for any information.

Thanx....

Just wanted to say thanks to all of you guys for the info. I spent a few hours on the forum last night and I think that we have a plan of attack for the stang...

rear end re gearing first
power pack from superisix next.... the only question for this would be if we need to redo the bottom end, crankshaft, pistons and rods ect...
headers and exhaust directly after the PP install.... I just moved to Dallas from Alaska and do not know how strict the inspections are so please give some advice on this....

Again, thanks for all of your help.. Jeremy and Ethan

if your going with a PP i would get the new bottom end too, Murphy's law states what can go wrong will go wrong, i remember when i had my compression ration changed on my sunfire and i rebuilt the whole top end new valves, lifters, head everything.... then bottom end went about 3 moths after it just wasnt strong enough to deal with the new top end. you dont nessisaraly need a new crank but new main bearings i would definitely do, but if you have the cash get a stroker crank and some forged pistons and rods.

you will need to keep cats for your exhaust, so get a custom h-pipe done with high flow cats on them and long tube headers, get an 8.8 rear end and 4.10's if your going with a powerpak.

rear end????

What is the 8.8 rear-end? I was planning on KMC Dimes 20-10.5 rear and 20-8.5 up front. I dont know if that will change anything much, but what I read here said to just upgrade the stock end with 4.10 gears and a locker? More info would help out alot.

Anyone from the Dallas area that could possibly give info on some reputable shops for this stuff?

Thanks guys, Jeremy and Ethan

they 8.8 is a stronger rear end than the stock 7.5 and it already has the t-lok in it, but with a power pak one good launch and you'll be looking at spider gear soup in that 7.5

im from austin, and the laws are kinda strict. it all depends on wher you go. i know a guy that will let you slide 90% of the time for an extra 50 bucks. just look around. as long as your not running an x pipe your normally good.
