Rear end has lots of movement around corners?

Ok, so at first this never bothered me.. but its been progressively getting worse. When i take corners, if there is even the slightest bump, the back of my car will sway pretty bad side to side. I put new shocks on the back hoping it would hide some of it, but nothing. Any ideas?

Have you checked your control arm bushings? With the car on jackstands and the rear axle hanging freely, can you move the axle side to side?

not sure, i have noticed though when its jacked up. the driver side tire stays higher then my right side tire. when its on the ground the back sags to the left side about an inch.. i measured it, and its definitely not right

Putting a rear swaybar on my car and locking the two lower control arms together eliminated the tail wagging session your talking about, unfortunately due to how soft the stock rubber bushings are a swaybar actually does help keep the axle centered, or at least provides some resistance to dampen the movements when the axle moves off center. New bushings will help to fix this problem and are the more correct way to do it but then your really talking about new control arms which can get pretty expensive.

yup, look at the upper and lower control arm bushings and check for tears or cracks. Also, ensure that the bolts are tight.

Do you have a sway bar yet?

are your back wheels on tight?....i know it sounds silly, but i've lost a wheel on the hwy due to that bump feeling and not double checking....the bump feeling lasted for a few days until it finally flew off

While you might have something exacerbating it, the ass-waggle is inherent in the 4-link. Even when it's "tight", the rear axle can shift an inch either direction under load.

If your UCA bushings are shot you'll notice it more, but to fix it you need to either go to spherically-bushed UCAs or install a panhard bar or watt's link.

I wonder if it just axle steer from the lateral movement axle. A pan hard bar can fix that.

size differs depending on year. Can come off a GT, Mach 1, or Cobra.

Cobra is biggest, but it also has the tendency to break at the welds. Never knew why...
