Bad camshaft syncronzer? (video included)The video pretty much explains it, I don't know what's going on with it as I have never had this part go wrong or had an engine make this noise. If anyone knows what it is please get back to me, I need it fixed since this is my only car and I depend on it to get to work and college. |

I cant not watch vid at work.
Lots of CPS info out there. When mine went out, to confirm, I took a 1' long extension and placed it on the cps while running and the other end I placed my ear on. Sound vibrations will travel through the metal and you'll clearly hear that the squeaking is coming from it. |

Mike are you talking about the Camshaft Position Sensor or the Synchronizer?

If your "sensor" makes that noise you must have wired it to your speakers somewhow ..
![]() But anyways the sensor sits ontop of the Synch', basically all one unit, but the sensor comes off ![]() Whole shit ton of info ... Replacing Camshaft Synchronizer & Sensor - Ford Mustang Forums |

Ok well it will be a while until I can do anything about it. Since I had to drop a lot of money on spring semester for college I now have not much left than enough for a tank of gas. So it will be several weeks until I will be able to consider buying one unless anyone knows of a place to get a good one that's cheaper in price.
How much would it cost a dealer to fix it? I usually hate having other people work on my car because I don't know what they are doing to it. I'd rather do it myself and if I screw up then I know it was me not doing it right compared to a Ford mechanic who should lol. Pluss I don't trust the local Ford dealer with a wet rag even. I have had a couple other issues that I brought there and they have worked me out almost $1000 in repairs I didn't need and they charge a lot of money to even look at a car. The closest Ford dealer I trust is 250+ miles away. I also won't have anywhere to repalce this for 4-7 weeks unless I wanted to stand out in the freezing ass cold and snow in Minnesota and try to change it lol. So overall how long would this last? I don't drive to much, maybe about 10-20 miles a week tops but I need a car here to get to work and I can't afford to have it fixed... Kind of a bad situation. |

agreed. Bad.
Those things can seize and fuck alot more up then just the CPS. You need to atleast find out what it is asap. EGR makes its harder to change, but I think if you unscrew the pipe it'll push out the way, and its an easy fuck up and can make your engine run like shit if you dont do it right ... |

mehh if you know how things work its simple, but not having been in the engine It can get confusing.
Pretty much the new HAS to go in like the old. Or use the tool I no needed tool. You read up on it. Buy manual. Learn how it tells you to do it. Do it that way. |

Do what I said about taking an extension or something and listening and if you hear it much louder on the cps housing thats the problem.
When you feel that surge in rpm its cps having to much friction and seizing for a second. If that thing locks completely up your fucked and alot more will be taken apart ... Takes about an hour or 2 to change if you know what your doing before hand ... |

I just listened to the video though, sounds like a cps, but make sure.
But from everything it matches mine exactly |

Yeah I replaced mine when I rebuilt the top end, it had been noisy as all hell for months before that, not sure if it contributed to the failure. Not too pricey and simple to do, just be sure to have it lined up exactly how it came out, so take pics before removal!! It comes with a nifty alignment tool (cap).
FYI when you have the stock CPS out you'll have to pull the shaft off, just use some muscle, there are no clamps or anything holding it in. As said I wouldn't wait too long on this.

that sucks man. My camshaft sensor went out 2 weeks ago, but it wasnt making those noises. The sensor is only $20 bucks and takes 5 minutes to install. Have you tried replacing that first?
Not sure if this helps, but figured I would offer it up
