the guides are the piece that the valve fits into. need certain tolerances to keep the valves from grinding or rubbing.

Still looking for my damn book, it's got to be here somewhere...

They're good for quick reference and for someone looking to do work on their cars. They can be vauge at times and helpful the next. $20 is a decent investment. Go down to the store and find one that's missing the plastic and flip through it.

Found it under the couch lol. And yea it was the stem to guide clearance that i needed. Anyone have an idea to the best way to check this? Thinking check the od of the stem versus the id of the guide, but not sure.
