hub assembly....

Has anyone ever heard of these going out after 35K or so miles? I just found out today that both of mine up front need to be replaced. Also, I was quoted at 400 for parts and labor... is this cool?

You guys rock in this forum. Keep up the good work and newbies like me will be hittin the track soon enough.

Thanks, Jeremy and Ethan

hope this helps...

The front of the stang had a dare I say it "grating" sound or more of a wuh wuh wuh that I thought was the brakes. The sound is even more noticable when I take a right hand turn. I took it in and I was told that it was the hub assembly... meaning the bearings the shaft rolls on... I was told that the bearings were connected to a hub assembly and thats what needed to be fixed. Dont know if this will help at all. Can get more info in the morning from the shop I took it too.

Thanks, Jeremy

im assuming your talking about the front spindle? assymbly?

that thing with that that could possible go bad is the bearings up front... the bottom picture is of the "hub" that you might be referring to... its the only thing that makes since to me...

400 sounds like a lot to take off a tire and disassymble that unit put in a new bearing and reassymble... but if thats the best price you can find by all means...

now the only thing that i can say about this is... don't play stupid... question every thing that they do/did... its a shop tryin to make up terms ... and not tellin you the straight truth... just be like... well can i see the old part... and does this have any other names?

things like that

well GL with your car

I'm sure they are talking about the hub and bearing assembly. They replace the whole assembly since the bearings are not available separately.

You can check on the cost of the part to get an idea what is reasonable.

I checked parts price at Auto Parts Wherehouse. The hub assemblies are $55.94 each. It looks like they are charging way to much.

If you have access to a strong breaker bar and length of pipe and can rent a torque wrench that goes up to 250 ft lbs it would be an easy job.

Thanks guys

Yes it is the hub and bearing assembly. They do not come seperate and my bearings went bad, so thats why I must replace the whole unit. I appologize for the confusion that this post caused earlier. Next time I have a question I will try to have all of the information before posting. Thanks guys. Hopefully this was a fluke and I will have no more problems with it.

couldn't you just go to the shop you brought it at and tell them to fix it?
I thought shops fixed stuff, instead of just "this is what's wrong with it......okay bye."

i prefer the hey your car is broken... kk we will leave it in our lot till you come up with an idea ... approch... lets me have time to do research and price things... for example i saved $400 on a rear main seal swap... just by searchin around and doin research ... $200 on brakes...

so its all your call... just gotta do the research which is why we are here
