1998 V6 belt squeal help

I have a 1998 v6 mustang with a annoying belt squeal / squeak. I changed the PS pump a few years ago, and the alternator this past summer. I have had the same belt on for about 4 years, i looked at the belt, took it off and saw rocks and what not of debris in the belt. took it off and cleaned it and then re-installed it. No squeal. for the rest of the day. then i took it home stored it in the garage, for a day and started it up next morning and the squeal was back. I replaced the belt with a new one. for about a month maybe longer. Well now it is squealing again.

So i put the old belt on just to see what would happen. Well the belt was quiet. i went to start it up the next day and it still is squealing. the belt squeal is coming from the alt. and ps. side of the motor... Idk if the tensioner is good or not. still has tension when i removed the belt but felt alittle weak..

I also noticed that the newer belt does show a bit of wear on the edge where you can see fabric.

Any ideas or help is appreciated.

sounds like your tensioner. it probably stops when you mess with it then loosens over time and squeels again

Your whole car is shot.
You should give it to me.

But anyways..

Make sure the belt is securely on each Bearing/tensioner etc.
Also make sure that none of them have come loose or are going bad.

Take the belt off and spin them freely in your hand. "Yes I know one or two wont spin.." this is just a guessing game. See if any wiggle or feel wobbly when you spin them. Thats how I found out my Alt pulley was bad.

If you want the car you can have it 4500 now. haha.

I got the car solve. one of the heater hoses i believe... there is the main upper coolant hose and then next to that are two other hoses which look like heater hoses and one of those that run by the belt systems had a small leak. I went out cleaned the hoses, cleaned the new belt that i bout a couple of months ago, pulleys and WD40'D the tensioner spring. I replced the hose aswell. works fine now no squeal yet.... knock on wood.

Thanks for all of the help

I went to a local, at the time, performance shop called M A S. they had some Bolt on spacers with the correct bolt patter. I had to replace the studs for longer ones because the stock 17 had a lot of back spacing. So i got new studs. which were a bitch to find because no body had the 1 inch long studs i needed for the spacers.
