low on oil problem

so i decided to check the oil in my car the other day and it was a whole 2 1/2 quarts low. it had an oil change probable around 1000 miles ago. ne idea on why it would be this low. im just glad i checked it when i did. im gonna have to keep an eye on it until i figure out the problem

on another note has anybody ever thought about swapping out their v6 with a 351? i just came into a free truck with a 351 in it and i dont plan on doing a swap but the question did cross my mind if it would even be possible. lol

It's pretty common to smell hot oil when your valve covers are leaking onto the manifolds and burning off, rear main seal leak, cylinder head rears leaks, etc. Oil must be leaking onto the exhaust somewhere to be smelling it. But 2-1/2 quarts in 1000 miles is quite a bit of oil.

Jeff city huh? You never hang out in the walmart/target parking lots do you? Word is thats the place to be on weekend nights.

Very important question. its the car leaking oil or burning oil

Burning- valve seals, head gasket

Leaking- rear main seal, oil pan, valve cover

Start your car up and give it a small rev or two and have a friend smell your tail pipe

Or take it out on the highway and downshift, if you see smoke coming out your tailpipe, you know what's up then. Dark black would indicate you're burning rich and blue would mean you're burning oil.
