Exhaust advice, need quick for 3.8

ok.. long story short, i had to get my cats cut out because they got clogged up, creating a LOT of backpressure. Its cheapest to cut them out and leave them out. This willl get done tommorow and have straight pipes going into the muffler. I know this will put on the check engine light. My question is... Will MIL eliminators make my mustang run like it should.. or will it just take that annoying light off?

Also.. it looks like my muffler is leakin, so im gonna replace them both. What muffler will give me the best sound for the cheapest price... and what are good MIL eliminators for my cause? Thanks guys.

If it means anything.. its a 95' 3.8

Taking the light off IS making the car run the way it should. The light being on isnt there just to look pretty. It throws off the fuel/air ratio from its default setting and then you waste gas like a mofo, and youll be running rich in the system. Until that light goes off, youre gonna notice that youll be pouring gas alot more than usual.

I have the exact same problem. I bought extensions AND MIL eliminators. And like I already said in another thread [ahem] that it did not work for me. We put the extensions on the front two sockets and the MILs in the rear, light stayed on. We switched them, extensions in the back and MILS in the front. Light stayed on.

In no way am I saying that they dont work becuz I may have a more severe problem, but if worse comes to worst for someone else, do what I did and buy a tuner. Itll take the light off PERIOD and return everything back to its default and normal settings.

Yea, default mode and safe mode wouldnt really be the same thing..

For example, you know something is up when your desktop computer restarts and comes back on in Safe mode. Exactly the same thing with the car. Except the "safe mode" isnt really safe. The normal fuel/air ratio gets thrown out the door and the cars computer doesnt know what to go by regarding how much fuel to throw in the system in equivalent with the amount of air being taken in. So it just throws it all in at once. Thus youll notice youll waste TONS more gas when driving around with an engine light on.

Default mode is pretty much the setting it comes out of the factory with.

Well, seems like im getting anew exhaust system. Kinda of a stupid question, but what is the best to put on my six for performance AND sound? Glasspacks are cheap, and id like to go with Thrush or something, but i dont want my car to sound raspy or ricey, its AMERICAN made, i want it to stay that way. Im gonna have the pipes custom made, but what size should i use? Its gonna be catless, they have been taken off, so i need pipe from the header back to the muffler. Will a axle-back sound better? I also saw where there are mufflers that have 1 in and 2 outs.... it would be kinda cool to have a axle-back with 4 tips. what do you all think?

i'll say

diameter 2.5' (give a deep tone)

long tubes (gives great sound with catless systems)

40s or 44s from flowmaster (44s replaced the 40s and sound great)

and vuala u have the sound of a real mustang

those r my choices

Do long tube headers rly give much more sound then shorty headers? Do shorty headers do anything good because I already have a pair and im going to put them on either way.

ok, i got work done today. Straights off the headers ( 2.5 tubing, whole exhaust is 2.5 ) Mufflers that came with the system ???? got no clue. There is no badging or anything. What does everyone know about a " Turbo " muffler? Guy that did the work said he has turbos. I want flowmaster 44's, but it sounds awesome now, especially when you get on it. Heres my new delima. No service engine light. As far as i know, im sposed to have on on since it has no cats, but why dont it have a light on?

welp. my service engine light came on today... took 200 miles or so but its on. Is there any difference in high and low priced eliminators? i saw Steeda eliminators for 60 some dollars, and i found some where you splice them in yourself for 15$ i would rather pay 15$, but i dont want them to give me horrible performance. links and suggestions???

the service engine light was on, but it went off today. the injectors need physically cleaned by hand, but its not running like it should. i had to cut the cats off because antifreeze got in them and screwed them up, so im straights back to the muffler, and muffler out, no crossover pipe. i think i need MIL eliminators, In fact, i know i do. What i need to know is this.

is there a difference in performance of eliminators that just plug in over the ones ya splice in? if a MIL eliminator does the same thing as alleliminators, then id rather pay 15$ for one i just splice in, than 65$ for one i plug in. HOWEVER, the the plug in eliminator does better, than i want it. i want to know what eliminator is best as far as price and performance.

please guys, dont bash my car, im proud of it, it was given to me and im happy with it. i want t o get it running like it should, i dont care the 1/4 mile times, all i know is it gets me where i wanna go and it looks good, has a good sound system and a nice exhaust tone. its all i care about. dont bash.
