Help!

Alright guys- I'm in need of a little bit of help. I've only ever owned imports before, so that is all new territory to me. There's a list of things I want to do- for one I want to definitely make her faster.. however everyone I've talked to told me that it's just not worth it, that it's going to cost wayyyy too much money to make it even halfway quick. The thing that's on the agenda right now is getting an exhaust- mine was cut off (it's a long story, and I didn't do it!).. I've got to get one before inspection. I went to a little bo-donk place that told me to dual it out and put glasspaks on it it would be $400.00, and that sounds just a bit pricey to me. At the same time though, I don't know much about pricing and what's a rip off and what's not. I'm used to doing most of the work myself, I just don't have the time or tools right now. So, my fellow Mustang owners.. any advice on what to do exhaust/speed wise? Thanks in advance.

Well first off welcome.

Exhaust - don't do glasspacks - it will sound like shit. If you want a cheap exhaust to get you by you can find someone parting out a GT and take his catback - known as "GT take-offs". A stock GT catback will fit a V6 with slight mods to your current mid pipe or with an after market one. Pypes and MAC both make said mid pipes for you.

An "X" pipe will make the tone a little more raspy
An "H" pipe will make the tone a little more throaty
A MAC Pro Chamber is in a category all it's own

Where exactly was your current exhaust chopped off? That can give us a better idea on which path to steer you down.

Performance - here we go:

Cheap/Fast/Reliable

Pick 2 of those words for your plans.

On the cheap and cheap to get you going a bit faster:
CAI
Exhaust
Gears (for rear axle)

Next step up would be a Windstar intake - this would however nulify said CAI but you can offload that on someone for a couple bucks.

After that speed parts get more expensive - Heads, Cam, Intakes, Forced Induction, N2O, etc.

Scroll down, view the picture, then listen to the numerous exhaust clips, be aware that it will sound better in real life because these are video clips.

Scroll down and read the exhaust portion, this will also give you a greater reference as to what you should do to your car.

Welcome my friend!

The best way to bring some power back to your Mustang is to get a good old fashioned..

Yep, You guessed it.
A Good Oil Change, plugs, Wires, Etc.
A Big ol' tuneup. Even if the Previous owner says.. "I Just did a tuneup.. uhh.. 3 months or so ago..." Its probably a Lie.

SO.. Get a good old tuneup going, Plugs on our cars are extremely easy to do.. And just clean her out, Use some Sea foam, Fuel injector Cleaner, Etc..

That will be a big start for ya.

That's how I started.

And by the way, Whats the Year of your car?

If its a 94-98 v6 mustang and you are able to do the work yourself I suggest doing a split port swap first.
