Start up squealing 3.9l 2004

I have extensively searched for a solution and have not found out what this noise is. When I start up the car on a cold day a squealing noise comes from what seems to be below or behind the engine. The noise always goes away after 10 minutes of driving. The pitch will change if I push the clutch in or out. I have already tried replacing the belt... Any suggestions???
Thanks

Welcome to MM!!!!

Pully maybe? i hear the idler pulley is one that squeeks quite often. you can try buying some anti belt squeel from a parts store and spray one pulley before starting it. narrow it down at least.

If you start the car without the belt on you can eliminate pulleys if the noise is still there. Do not run the car for more than a minute or so like this, but should be more than enough time to know that the noise is there or not.

If it changes with the clutch being engaged/disengaged then I'm gonna have to say it's something in the clutch system. Most likely the throw out bearing is that's the case. Normally this noise will persist longer than just ten minutes of driving.

how many miles on clutch?

Another good possibility is the Cam synchro. About $60 to replace, install can be a little tricky if you have limited mechanical knowledge. Since you mentioned the clutch I'd start there however.

57,000 miles on car. Not sure if the clutch has ever been replaced. I bought it at 52,000. I'll try narrowing down the pulleys when I get home and go from there. As that is the simplest thing to eliminate.

Right, always start at the easiest and cheapest. I'd guess you've got a stock clutch. Unless it's been beaten up it should have plenty of life left on it.

Im not sure if that is it or not. I youtubed the sound of that and it is diffrent than what I'm experiencing, or atleast I believe so. I'll post a video once my car has had time to cool down. Some other symptoms is the noise will increase with the slight pushing of the throttle and will get steadily louder.

Well here is the video link

I was not able to pop the hood because I was in a hurry.
The noise almost seems like it is coming from the catalytic converter.

Vid fail?

Cat would never make a squealing noise. If it's that general area the TOB is a likely cause. As said, always use OEM piece there. If you're going to swap that, I'd suggest inspecting the rest of the clutch as well.

I'll post a better video probably Sunday morning. You can hear the noise better starting around 18 seconds.

well it is definately not the pulleys or belt. I took of the serpentine and the noise still occurred. I think it is the TOB because when i slightly push in the clutch or let it out, the noise will change pitch and will cause the noise to either stutter or go constantly depending on how far in and out... does this sound like a weakening TOB? because the noise goes away after driving for awhile.

Yes. After warming up it's expanding slightly, but if you're hearing the change when disengaging the clutch, it's def. something in the clutch system, and the TOB is what makes the noise.

How mechanically inclined are you? Pull the trans and the clutch inspection cover and get the TOB off. Replace with OEM as said, if clutch is working fine then you should be good with just that.

mechanically inclined to do just about anything including pulling a trans, or stubborn enough to attempt something if i didn't know how.

Good man! The way to be. Isn't too tough, just don't crack your sternum if you'll have the car on jack stands when pulling the trans.
