weight reduction
So I've been thinking...I noticed when I have a passenger that's a girl the car doesn't seem to lag at all from the extra weight of 120 pounds or less (the heaviest girl that's been it there) but when I have a friend who weight 200-260ish or more for some of them it seems waaaaaay slower...so I was wondering how much weight would I have to lose to get a gain in speed

i think its like, every 100pounds you lose, you gain a sec on your 1/4 time. im probly wrong though.

No 100 pounds isn't a full second difference, but I know there is some ratio to it cause I've felt it

yeah its .1 for every 100 lbs. shit if it was 1 full second i would just lost weight myself...at least 50 lbs ....i cant look starving at 100......but its .1 so if u took the spare out with the jack...took ur seats out and the motor in the drivers side and put some Kirkeys or something light weight...and a rear seat delete out of plexi glass and carpet...you'll have a lot of weight gone

sorry, i didnt know. the best thing to do for weight reduction is drill and chamfer the frame. it actually makes the frame stronger because stress moves in a line, and when it comes to a chamfered hole it cannot go through.

like gtsetgo said
the ratio IS ABOUT .1 of a second for every 100lbs depending on the setup and where the weight is taken out you could see more or less for example if you could take off 100lbs from the front of the car i'd say you'd see more then .1 of a gain less weight to push and better traction cause the weight is being evened out a little more. but 100lbs from rear seat removal, ligther trunk, taking out the spare tire and jack and other weight taken out in only the back i'd say you'd only see the .1 or less but for that car weight reduction items no carpet carbon fiber or light trunk light weight rims lose the jack and spare tire rear seat delete light weight racing seats up front take off the front sway bar remove a/c and air bags switch from power windows to roll up windows take out the heater as well take out speakers aluminum driveshaft aluminum block all that might be worth .5-.7 of a second... no radio no air conditioning, uncomfortable seats get a flat n your fucked only one friend in the car if you crash your face is gonna get pretty fucked up along with your body when my car was stock i knew a guy with a b16 in a hatch.. had nothing in the inside of the car but his drivers seat and a basket for someone to sit on.... still beat him stock... weight reductions are i'd say better for track cars... idk about you but in florida i need my A/c

Completely gutted would be pushing it...I was thinking scrap the rear seats, get some light weight racing seats, light weight rims(if I find some I like) and maybe carbon fiber hood and deck lid...btw is there anything else light that will be easier to have painted

also get a lightweight battery like Odyssey or braille($$$). you lose 20lbs right there.
lightweight brake rotors. removes quite a bit of unsprung weight. get light flywheel, carbon fiber driveshaft ($$$) the more rotational mass you remove the less power is lost through the drivetrain, so the gains are not only from the lighter car, but from more efficient drivetrain one thing i like about weight reduction is that it can also be practical --- gas mileage is improved, car handles better and gets a bit faster. hey Torres, who offers aluminum blocks for the 3.8? I've never seen one. |

i would love an aluminum block... that would kick so much ass... i would sell my car for one... kinda contradicting ... but hell who cares... i could get a shelled car and drop it in... with a t-56 and an 8.8 ... that would fuckin dominate! after a twin turbo that is

hell yea...he told me a general idea of what he's doing...he's got a 4.2L coming in soon...4.2L with a turbo on a 2,700lb car...8.8 rear with a new tranny...
and he'll know what he's doing with his turbo set up...i see that car being the fastest v6 mustang known yet... fastest is the 9.9 single port 95 v6 with a single turbo running 30psi
