1998 GT

I recently purchased a 1998 mustang gt 4.6 sohc and it drove great for all of a month. After a brief visit to Pepboys the codes ran were PO171 and PO174 for lean fuel on banks one and two. They told me it was a result of the K&N filter getting cleaned and put back in too soon, dirtying up all the intake. I looked at the intake, since they had it off and it was spotless. I passed on the $400 estimate for cleaning costs after reading a few of the posts here. After getting it home I cleaned the MAF sensor as prescribed and sprayed for leaks along the vacuum lines. Also checked the PCV valve and elbow but there has been no change. My buddy told me I blew some white smoke while doing 90 by him on the freeway. I was WOT, and I've read that this can happen, especially with the age and mileage of my car. Otherwise, the symptoms are: Poor idle, really really bad gas mileage (about 14 mpg hwy right now) and stalling acceleration (floor it and it talks it over with the ECM for awhile). The mods are a B&B "cold air, yeah right" intake with throttle body. Purchased used, I don't have a clue what else may have been done to the engine.
Anyone know a fix for this drama? I feel like I've bought a 5000 dollar headache.

So I'm an idiot. If any mods can fix my blunder I appreciate the re-routing of this post. Sorry for the noob move.

Replace your O2 sensors they are bad. 100% sure of it. its not cause of the K&N
