Service engine light wont go away!!!!

okay, recently after installing a CAI my cars service engine light went off. the code for it was the oxygen sensors, i replaced the one that is said was burnt out but i believe it continued to say the same one was broken as well as another one. is this a result of the CAI or my car reaching 100,000 miles? I just reached 98,000. please help.

did you have the fault code cleared with an OBD2 tool? if not it will remain there until you clear it.

Like Juggalo said, you have to clear your codes to make them go away. Unfortunately while most AutoZone stores would be more than happy to read your codes, I don't believe they're exactly "allowed" to erase them for you due to ethics and whatnot. You can pick up a scanner pretty cheap though ($60-80 for a mini with erase).

The alternative is that your CAI threw something off. Make sure all the gaskets and rubber connectors are sealed up tight so you're not leaking or anything. Also, what brand is it? A bad filter could likely set off your sensors.

The idea that your mileage throwing it off is unlikely though, especially after you already replaced the one. My '98 has over 140,000 and I've never had issues like the ones your seeing.

use an unlit propane torch and open the valve so it seeps out and run it around ur intake if ur idle increases you have a leak in that general area. u can also use TB and Choke cleaner spray for this. do it outside in a ventalated area so u dont die from the fumes, thats a tip thats kept me kickin lol

I thought if you fixed the problem, after enough driving cycles the light would go off

It takes 3 Driving cycles to make the code pending and then 40 warm up periods to get rid of an O2 code from the freeze frame and pending DTC storage area on the pcm

did you hook the CAI up correctly 100%....if you messed up the MAF or the other sensor it's a good chance it'll go off

you could always get a XCAL2 and clear it

This may sound ridiculous...but make sure your gas cap is tightened correctly...a lot of times the check engine light is just that.
