You don't have to cover the battery/alternator/electrical if your electrical connections are in good condition. Don't violently drench the inner working of the alternator and cover everything in the degreaser and allow to site for about 10 minutes or so, then just hose off.

Some people armorall their degreased engines for an emaculate shine, but the armorall substances attract dirt, so if you live in a clean area with no dirt roads/gravel, you may consider this method of a "finish" for post-degreasing.

So it's okay to get water on the injectors, coils, and other wiring?
I was going to clean my engine the other day, but wasn't too sure about it.

Sorry to hijack your thread, macnesa.

The coil pack connections are very secure, but just don't drench the connections with high pressure water.

I do it frequently, I don't cover anything. I spray gunk cleaner everywhere and spray everywhere off. Most of the time the car will idle funny for a few minutes because some water did get in around the coil packs, etc. but it'll dry out fast. Like AB suggested, just don't try to high pressure spray the insides of electrical parts.

Well, I got around to doing it. It looks great now, and even no idling issues after I soaked it.

Thanks for your help, guys.
