Loss Of Power! Help Please!

Whenever I am going uphill it seems like i am loosing power. If I floor it I speed up but it sounds like the engine is about to blow, so I dont do it most of the time. At night it seems like the lights are getting dimmer. One day my engine actually died. I am just glad I noticed that was the reason and that it cranks up form nuteral because a semi was commin up on me a little faster then what I felt as comfortable when I cant speed up! I dont understand whats wrong. No real performance mods other than a drop-in K&N filter. The lady at the local Ford place told me ANY performace mods will void my entire warrenty and I dont want to risk that. I dont want to take it too Ford and they charge me to see whats wrong and it turns out its a wire or something which they wont cover anyway. So, if anyone knows what might cause this problem, please advice would be very much appreciated!
