Intermittent Issue Coming Out Of Reverse
I have a 95 Mustang. I've only had the car for a short time and when I bought the car from the original owner, she had very detailed notes as to what was done on the car and when it was done. The clutch was replaced not too long ago so I don't think the problem is there, but what happens very intermittently is that if say I'm in a parking spot in a mall or something, and I go into reverse to pull out of the spot, the car won't let me switch out of reverse without forcing it. If I turn the car off and on, it's fine. It's like there's something that's grabbing it and not letting go. So I guess my question is what could be the issue here? Like I said, it's very intermittent and actually, I just came in from driving around the block a few times and trying to back in and out of various spots to duplicate the problem and I didn't have an issue at all.
A question I do have also is that when you throw a car into reverse and ride the clutch or just hold it down while going backwards without giving gas, is that bad? It's almost like sometimes when I do that, the clutch isn't letting go unless I go in reverse and let go of the clutch to let it go. |

Anyone else have any ideas? I've been outside playing with it since this issue happened today, and what I noticed is that if it does lock in reverse all the car needs to do is roll and it lets it go. What does that sound like to you?

I was talking with a dude on another forum and he said that he had the same issue with a different car, and it turned out to be a sensor that needed to be replaced, but he had no clue which it was.
Does that sound familiar to anyone else? Or do you think I may just need an adjustment on the clutch? |

I have a really similar problem, except it feels like something's blocking from going into reverse sometimes instead of out of it. Mine goes away when the car rolls a little too, so I think it's pretty much the same thing. It only happens every once in awhile, it feels like the little blocker that stops you from putting it into reverse when you're going to fast, some cars have it for first gear too.

Ya, I don't know. I'll have to play with it a bit more to try to find out what's going on with it. See if I can find things that I'm doing to make it happen. It seems like when I try to make it happen it doesn't, yet when I'm paying no attention to it, it may happen. Since this is my first Mustang, I'm sure I'm doing something to cause it to happen. What I'm turning my focus to is making sure that I put the clutch all the way down. My old car was a crx and with how the clutch was, it's much different than the Mustang so maybe I'm just not throwing it down enough and it's getting all caught up.

Haha, the other dude says stay close to the left and now one says to the right. I took it out tonight, pulled my seat in closer to make sure that I was fully engaging the clutch and it went both in and out of reverse fine. I'll have to play with it more.
