can anyone impart their heater core knowledge on me... i have taken the entire dash apart and took off the instrument panel, then i took off the 4 bolts and nuts or whatever my Chilton says to remove the heater box. the damn thing wont come off. it's loose but it's like theres still a bolt in the back holding it to the firewall, but there's not.

heater core

i've removed the whole dash and steering wheel and everything. I have a big pile of about 8 billion dash parts and it looks kinds scary. I can grab the heater box, but i can't get it off its mount. i took off all the bolts and screws. it still feels like its mounted somewhere. am i supposed to pull it a certain way? is it the drain down below heads to the engine bay?

not sure if this will help but its worth a try i suppose

  1. Remove A/C evaporator case assembly.
  2. Disconnect vacuum harness from A/C evaporator case and position aside.
  3. Remove four heater core cover retaining screws. Remove heater core cover from A/C evaporator case.
  4. Remove heater dash panel seal from heater core tubes.
  5. Lift heater core from A/C evaporator case.

no, i haven't gotten to that step yet, but thanks for the diagram. i haven't gotten the heater box out of the car yet. i found out i have to disconnect the ac. i didn't realize it was connected. i don't know why they would leave that important step out of my Chilton. but i might just dremil into the box like i've seen others do and leave it bolted to the car.

there is a bolt in the engine bay that you MUST remove to pull the box off to get to the heater core lemme see its fig 9 in my chilton which is the sn-95 (round) mustang box

all finished and put back together. i just cut into the heater box with a grinder instead of disconnecting the AC. heat smells a little like burnt plastic but that'll go away hopefully. thanks for your help. i'm pretty sure after this i'll never do a heater core on a ford again haha but if anyone has any questions now i'm confident i should be able to answer em'. here's some pics.
