engine for the price...

Hey guys, I was just wondering if this may be a good price for a used 3.8L. Instead of doing everything to our ride and creating down time w/ the car. Ethan and I are looking at a stock engine to work on in the garage.

http://www.hartsautoparts.com/ecatal...ine&fld_five=0

Give me some ideas..

Thanks, Jeremy

oh.. and get a vin number from the car it was in before you buy it.

I would run a report on the car to see why the motor was pulled in the first place

I know. I just figured that my son and I could do alot better with something in front of us (like this) We are looking at doing some of the work ourselves and possibly having it bored out. IDK yet as we are learning this as we go.

what are you looking for in a motor?

if you want to bore and stroke it your better off picking up a 4.6.
they aren't that much more expensive.

I am looking for something that my son and I can work on to learn how. Along with taking the parts wherever they may need to go for things like P/P. Is a 4.6 going to set on the existing mm or is there fab work. We do not have excess to this thats why we are looking at a 3.8 to work on and eventually swap with the one we have in there now. I know that I want to keep it N/A so the boy can take this over when he is able to drive. Basically I want to make a monster 6. Why you may ask? Well, why not. Good starter engine to learn the ropes on.

as long as the mustang is not a fox the 4.6 will bolt right up with no fabbing required.

the transmission from the 3.8 will also match up perfectly.

the 4.6 is a much better platform to start with and you stated that you wanted a monster v6...

a 2004 v6 mustang only produces 150-160 rwhp

the 4.6 puts 230-240 rear wheel hp to the ground stock and n/a.

although the 2v 4.6 is not the best motor itself either.. if your willing to spend the cash the best n/a motor you will see is either a 2001 Cobra motor or a motor out of a Mach1 mustang.. both are 4.6's and both have 4v motors the the GT's 2v 4.6
