oil change

I hate changing my own oil. It makes a mess in the garage and it takes too long for my impatient self. Ive never been able to do it myself and save enough money to justify screwing around with it.

Unfortunately, I went today to try and find a shop to do it. They all said it would be like an hour or more wait. What the hell? There's no Greese Monkeys or Valvolines around here. So rather than go wait at a shop, I'm gonna do it myself on Saturday.

I know this is a real bad noob question but I want to make sure. How many quarts do you need for the 3.8???? Isnt it 5???

in an 04 with 40k miles, what brand and weight would you say to use? whats the best oil filter? I live in hot as hell Florida too by the way.

That Royal Purple cost a little more right? Do you think it really helps compared to like Castrol. Ive always had good luck with Valvoline but nobody ever says anything good or bad about that brand. I should stay away from the synthetic stuff right????

I usually use a Fram filter or Purolator with whatever oil I have laying around. 5W30 in the winter months and last week, since it's warming up I used 4 qts of 10W and 1 qt of 5W. Mix and matched. Think it was castrol, but oil brand usually doesn't sway me.

And what's so hard about changing it yourself? haha, at least you have a garage to do it in when the weather isn't great.

im only using royal purple since my turbo kit is on its way =)
and i have to tap a 1/2 hole in the oil pan with no oil in it obviously. so i'm refilling it with royal purple

for stock applications or bolt ons i dont recommend it, i used it before Q and didnt care for it

synthetic oil like castrol or mobil 1 is your best bet

royal purple is about $7 a quart
vs the $5.70-$6 a qaurt castrol or mobil 1 or Q

i get 20% off on what i buy from my store and we have royal purple =D

5w20 mobile one fully synthetic with k&n oil filter. oil stays cleaner for a way longer time. get the oil from Walmart its way cheaper. 22 bucks for 5 qts of mobile one by me. 15 dollars cheaper than most places.

if you ever get the chance to look it up i suggest doing it, but somewhere there is a documentary on royal purple, it was very informative about what they do in the process from there tests they run to EVERYTHING, ever since i watched that show i have used royal purple in all my vehicles. As bad as i know some of you are going to cringe when i say this but i just ran royal purple in my stang for 15000 miles and i just started getting dark. so YES IT IS WORTH IT. I now swear by it. and K&N filter

royal purple starts out dark...
its PURPLE! a very dark purple

you wana tell us what royal purple does then...
i know what it does and why its better then mobil, castrol, Q, penz, vavoline

you cant just hand out un-helpful info...
thats like saying

yea i read a thing on long tubes and what it said was good, it really helps.....
that will not help anyone

running royal purple IS NOT needed for every car you drive
my dad has a work truck that uses advance auto parts oil(NOTHING SPECIAL AT ALL)
and has over 150,000 miles on it with out a problem
and it doesnt recieve tune ups on time exactly either

any synthetic oil is good for the car.
