Headers Question

Whats the point of replacing headers for a exhaust kit? does it mean i could add a x-pipe? how can i add a x-pipe on a v6?

the only purpose for headers is sound and performance.
but u wont notice any performance unless ur hp is already pretty high and then u put headers on.... basically their less restrictive than the stock exhaust manifolds.

an off road h pipe would sound better than x but either way they bolt right right up to the stock exhaust manifolds.
u dont have to have headers

but if u do buy headers i suggest u buy MAC long tubes or any set of ceramic shorty headers.

with the long tubes ull have to buy a shorty midpipe (h or x)

the ceramic shortys will bolt right up with ur stock exhaust plus they wont deteriorate due to the a/c draining onto them as quickly as the stock exhaust manifolds do.

oh so i can get duals just with the x-pipe and dual mufflers? oh wow thats nice .. i could do it without getting headers right? so wait why didnt ford just do that .. i bet it wouldnt cost them that much .. i thought you needed to replace headers cause there was like only one place for a single .. wait whats the point of a y-pipe then .. im so confused

the only thing you need for true duals on a V6 is an H or X Pipe, And a cat back system. Ford ran one pipe from each header back, they ran down the car and joined into one pipe, that joining is called the Y pipe, so you have to get rid of the Y pipe and replace it with an H or x pipe witch will allow for two mufflers, and two tail pipes. I personally reccomend An H pipe on a six due to the fact that an x pipe can sound raspy, or even like rice on a V6 mustang. The 3.8 is an even fireing engine, therefor it will never sound as deep an a 4.6. Mac is a great choice to get a V6 to sound like an 8, on a budget. Flows also sound good. But Magnaflow and Borla are the best for power. Hope this helps.

Oh shit, sorry i thought you had a 3.8, well all V6 engines are even fireing, So good luck with the duals, i hope they sound nice for ya! Also make sure you get a GT bumper, cuz when you get the true duals they will have to cut the bumper in order to get the one tailpipe to fit. So it looks a hell of a lot nicer to just have a bumper that will accomodate the two tailpipes. Good luck with your stang!

- You don't even need an H or an X to run duals on a v6

- You don't need HIGH hp to see gains from long tube headers either

- Magnaflow/borla are also the worst sounding mufflers on our cars

- An X pipe on a v6 without a cam is going to sound horrible

- Why didn't ford just do this from the factory? Probably because the 3.8L stang really didn't need dual exhaust, and because it would take away from the GT which is what ford wants you to buy :p

Edit:

- And now that I see we're talking about an 05 mustang, nothing I've heard so far sounds good on them. And I've heard just about everything but aero-turbine and some off named exhaust brands. Pypes actually sounds decent on the s-197....

Some people have made the american muscle kit sound good with an H pipe. There are also kits that allow you to hook up a system to you Y pipe, it will give you a nice look and decent sound, but nothing special, and the power gains will be much better on an H pipe system

big +1

also with our 190hp....dual exhaust isnt needed...it'd be dual 1inch pipes...
