transmission build time
Ok, so I have the tranny out of a 94 V6 sitting in my garage...the plan is to beef it up, and rebuild it but I don't know how to. So I know ill need a better torque converter, and a shift kit, can someone elaborate on that? What's involved in a rebuild? Also since I'm rebuilding I probably wouldn't want stock parts...is there a way to upgrade the parts used in a rebuild...help me out guys

ok i would not suggest that you do your tranny rebuild....i would take it to a shop that specializes in trannys....and ask them to put high performance tranny parts in it.....and i would put a shift kit in and instead of a torque coverter i would get a stall converter....they let you get your rpms up befor you launch

I might have meant stall convertor...I'm not sure. Is that the one that makes it take off harder when you hit the gas? And I was gonna have everyrhing put in at a shop but I need to know what to get first

Get a Hi-Perf transmission kit.. I think B&M has them for that year...
Get a Shift Improver kit (These are not hard to install) Get a Hi-Stall Torque converter.. If you have an SCT or similar tuner, make sure that you ask them to firm the shifts... If you have rebuilt transmissions before, then go for it... The ford isn't any harder/easier than some of the others out there... If you have NEVER done anything with an Auto before, then take it in. Auto transmissions are not like anythign else, and even one tiny little error or even 1 tiny piece of dirt/crud can cause the transmission not to function properly.... If you really do want to learn how to fix/rebuild your transmission, see if anyone you know has an old Chrysler/Dodge/Plymouth vehicle that needs tranny work.. the older A904/A727 transmissions are just about the easiest of the automatics to work with, and once you can work on thise, then moving up to the ford isn't going to be a big deal... Also the older C4/C6 fords are just about as simple as the 904/727.... However the nice thing about a 904/727 is that they do NOT require a complete rack of specialty transmission tools.... **EDIT** also, i notice your car is a 2000, and the transmission you have is a 1994... Are you rebuilding the trans for use in your 2000? They are different transmissions in case you did not know... Yoour 2000 is a 4r70W, the 1994 is an AODE... very similar transmissions, but the 4r70W has lower 1st/2nd gears for better acceleration... |
