block coolant drain plug


where the f is it? lol



I'm trying to basically overhaul the engine to replace the head gasket and stuff, but I cant find the plug to drain the coolant from the block!?

HELP!

but theres oil in the coolant, so i think there might be coolant in the crank case, will it drain it all out of there if i drain the oil as well?

I believe I noticed that there is one. Look on both sides of the block for a plug with a pipe thread. Sorry I can't be more precise because the shop manual doesn't mention it. You might also call a machine shop that rebuilds these engines.

if you pull the bottom hose like he said you will get all the coolant and pulling out the oil drain you should have taken everything off. Oh and make sure you drain the powersteering fluid too. If you are going to get it rebuild it will be about 1200 for everything. I had the same thing done a couple weeks ago. Are you going to do the whole swap yourself?

If he is planning to remove the heads with the engine in the car, my experience was that there was quite a bit of coolant left in the block after draining the radiator, and it will go down into the cylinders. Not that this is really a problem, just turn the engine a few revolutions, and oil the cylinder walls and the coolant is gone. After that drain the oil to get any coolant out of the oil pan. It would be a neater job if the block drain plugs were removed but not essential.
