1996 3.8 mustang shuts off when put into gear

Hello my name is Tara I have a 1996 ford mustang V6 Automatic with lot of miles not sure how many i was driving down the road one day and it just cut off i started it again and it started fine but as soon as i put it into gear it would cut off no matter if it was drive or reverce it will run all day in neutral what could it be please help me
I Had the codes read the only code it read was IAT sensor Idle air temp. I checked the EGR and it was good I replaced the mass air flow sensor, the idle air control valve, all vac. lines and the purge canister solenoid. I have a new fule filter I am going to place tomorrow today when I worked on it when I started it and put it in reverce with my foot on the brake it would run for a moment then it would cut off I have no idea what to try next i mean it will run all day in park but as soon as i put it in drive it cuts off

That would actually be your alternator.. Replace it, and it will work fine.

Wanna bet? I've seen it prolly 100 times. Just replace the alternator, and it will go away. If it doesn't, then Chris was right. But, I bet you that it's the alternator.

IF, it is not a alternator, he will not need a new tranny. this could be a lock-up torque convertor problem. The convertor lock is stuck on so the torque convertor is "solid" when you put it in gear. Replace the torque convertor and see if that does anything.
