automatic downshifting...
it happens once in a while that I'm just cruising along, and my transmission (auto) just downshifts on its own out of nowhere. basically just as if I'd be pressing the O/D Off button, but it just does it on its own, and then it goes back after a few seconds usually. sometimes for less than a second, sometimes for like 10 seconds...
it comes in "phases", it's not gonna do it for a good while, then it does it on and off for 10 minutes, and then it doesnt do it at all again for another couple of weeks... I thought of replacing my transmission fluid, cus the car has over 150 000 miles on it (well the engine itself has about half of that...does that include the tranny? I don't know...) and it's probably never been done. but I've heard that that does more harm than good so now i'm not sure if i should... anyone know what might be up with this? |

I am not sure what kind of car you have, but it is a good idea to change tranny fluid every 30K miles at the latest. i change mine every 20K and my Aod lasted to 250K miles. Then I just pulled it for the 460/C6 swap.

it's a 94 V6...
I'm just not sure if I want to change it though because apparently when you change tranny fluid that hasn't been changed in a long time, it just makes it sluggish and doesn't shift right. how much does it cost to swap the tranny? |

Well if it hasnt been changed in a while then the friction material is worn off and mixed in with your tranny fluid. So when you change it you will no longer have the friction material in your tranny. A friend of mine bought a fox and was changing all the fluids, his tranny was never the same. If you do decide to change it, then keep your old fluid in something clean so you can put it back in if it acts up after the change.
