Stangs trying to die on me... help!!!

I was in Tampa at an account today. After the car was sitting for about an hour, I got in it and left. It was about 5 city blocks to the e-way. when I went to ramp on, all hell broke loose!

At WOT trying to get to speed to merge ( I made it to about 60 and I think it just shifted into 3rd). Suddenly, the car starts decelerating. My foot was still on the floor so I let off to about 50%. Seeing I had no where to pull over on the ramp, I put it to the floor again and it kept loosing power all the way to about 30 mph. This all took about 100 yards or so where I finally had a place to pull over. So i left the engine on for a second to see if the CEL was gonna come on and it didnt. It seemed to be ideling a little low and slightly erratic but not to the point that the tach was flying up and down. Maybe like 200 RPMS back and forth. The whole thing sucked because it felt like it was trying to stall or something and I couldnt get it to "find" its power. It felt like the more I pressed the gas, the worse it got. I wuld say it was misfiring but it really wasnt like that. It was like it was just dying or something.

So I ended up shutting the engine off and sat there for about 5 minutes. I went ahead and started it back up and the idle was fine. So I went ahead and gunned it into traffic ( I had to because there was like no gaps between cars at that spot on the eway). I drove about 75mph for about 45 miles non stop the rest of the way home. Parked it in the garage and an hour later, went to Ruby Tuesdays and ate some shitty food. On the way back and forth to dinner, no problems.

40,000 miles. Just changes the oil and did a partial coolant flush last weekend.

Any ideas to this crap??? I dont want to have that happen again. Especially if Wifey is driving. That was dangerous to lose power unexpected like that.

Any advice or experiences would be GREATLY appreciated.

sounds like a pc fluke.

but just in case.. check all your fittings on you intake... if anything is loose or popped off after the MAF your situation could easily happen.

Thanks HMUSN. I hope the PC Fluke is right.

But, did you see what I did to the intake? I wrapped the shit out of that thing? Nothings going to leak through that sucker now. But if there is a problem there, thats gonna suck taking all that crap off.

Do you think it could be a bad plug or a fuel filter??? Or is that usually something that doesnt go away like I described?

I doubt it's either.

you only have 40k on the car.

it sounds like a leak or a short.

a hose might be loose.

with the idle doing what it did it sounds like intake woes.

OK, I hate to bug you but I trust you. So I need to look for any "leak" from the filter back to the throttle body first. Is there a better way to do that besides just looking and feeling for air? And say I find one, do i just need to patch it with something?

no.

you need to unwrap your intake with whatever you wrapped it with first.

the heat isn't going to cost you any real HP on a street car. your just adding weight.

and no you don't want to patch it.

the intakes (even the stock ones) are direct fits.

if there is a leak it is because of an improper install.

I doubt that there is an hole in you intake.. I meant the fittings.

Damn...
I bought a fuel filter a few weeks back and didnt instal it because I didnt buy the "tool". Ive been putting off doing that. Should I do that first to see if it helps or do you think its a waste? Is 40k about the life of a fuel filter anyway???

Change that fuel filter dude if you get a deposit that blocks the line partly within the filter then you will get to much air not enough fuel and then u would chug miss and bog, if that fails then you have an intake issue either a leak that is allowing un-maffed air or your filter is plugged and your getting to little air. this sounds like an A/F issue for sure. but this also can be cause by your pcm having a brain fart or lastly and this is the kicker if you press the gas and the car wont rev it could be a tranny issue and the TCM has defaulted to LIMP home mode which will not allow you to go over 60 MPH and if you floor it from there you will experience a decell. firstly i would check your maf, if its dirty. then check the filter. also make sure you are intake vacuum leak free thats. make sure your PCV intake tube is plugged into the intake hose as well as the PCV vent tube is connected to the valve cover and the upper intake you make have cracked this when putting all the heat shield on. it tends to get brittle. if you checked and suspect no intake leaks and the air filter is not plugged. next step is to heck fuel. make sure your rail has fuel pressure it most likely does, but you can chekc this by taking the plastic cover off the nipple on the rail behind the alternator depress this in the KOEO position so the pump is primed. you should see fuel coming out of this when depressed. replace that fuel filter tho like i said. and if you have fuel and this persists get the fuel pressure checked could be a dieing fuel pump. and lastly is your battery and or alternator fubared if it is it can cause the PCM to have a panic attack just like this.

ya. Its on the top of the cover on the passenger side right? Its a small cylinder about the diameter of a nickle?

I noticed after my oil change it was loose. But Ive never removed it before then anyway. It should be pretty easy to pull out and put back in right? It doesnt really "lock" in??? or does it??

just pop into the valve cover and the intake tube just before the TB and then the one on the drivers side goes to the PCV valve and the other end to the upper intake.
