compatibility for my 2000 3.8 atomatic transmission

Hey, my first post here!

I had my tranny blow out on my 2000 automatic 3.8. looking for a decent replacement here in Sacramento wreckers and CL. Not looking to switch to anything else, just the easiest replacement.

what model of cars and years are compatible? There's a guy on CL with a 2000 GT for sale will that work?
which years mustang will work? is it 99-2002?
what other fords should I be searching?

Thanks, this site is awesome and has helped me mucho so far. I have beeen lurking, but now signed up.

If you plan to buy an entire car for the trans, why not just sell the sixer? =P

Seriously though, I believe 96-04 auto trans were the 4R70W. Pretty sure the AODE stopped after 95. I wouldn't doubt MPSautosalvage has a few. I'd do the "J-Mod" while you're at it.

An auto from a gt wont fit your v6. U can use any auto from 96-04 as long as its a v6. I believe the earlier aod's would work too but there may be differences in computers and whatnot

OP, you're going to want a '99-'02 V6 4R70W. The pre-'99 4R70W's lack a significant number of updates, and the '03-'04 4R70W's don't have a provision for the VSS. One from a GT will not work, as the bellhousing bolt pattern for the Modular is different from the SBF pattern of the V6.
