the dreaded service engine soon light

ok im all out of ideas. it just wont go away. heres how it all started. ok first i cleaned the throttle body then the iac then i reset the idol screw. tightened the cat back exhaust and after i checked rechecked tightened all the screws and check all the plugs even reset the computer. 2 times just because i thought maybe i did it wrong the first time. now if you listen to the bottom of the car when its running you hear a very faint squeaking noise that goes away when you depress the clutch. when you release it comes back. but it drives better and besides that little noise it sounds better too. does anybody know what the hell happened.

did you go to autozone and have them read your computer... if you do that and any codes come up then you can google the codes and see what needs to be fixed... thats the easiest way to figure out whats wrong!!!

I had the wire in mine break and it did the same thing...including the service engine light. It'll cost about $60 to replace if you go through a certified dealer. I'd recommend just spending the extra $30 and upgrading to a better MAS. Hope this helped a little.

BTW...the MAS has a very tiny wire filament in it that breaks if jarred to hard. Did you hit the cord connected to it to many times while working in you engine bay.
Dont recommend part replacement with out even seeing the DTC thats stupid......

Please get the CEL code read and post back with it then we will make our Recommendations. PS it is very possible it could be something as simple as the fuel cap not seating properly.

and PS the MAF or ans you call it the MAS sensor is not 60 bux more like 460 bux just FYI

It would be impossible to have a service engine soon light as that is exclusive to GM products. To ensure that you are going in the right direction to diagnose the culprit causing your CHECK ENGINE light to come on get your code/ codes read and post them up here so we can better troubleshoot the problem you are having. Also it is a MAF Mass Air Flow sensor not a MAS

that's called clutch chatter my friend.

it's normal.

when you have your foot slightly on the clutch does it vibrate a tad?

no, that actually sounds like a bad throw out bearing. the cel sounds like you need new O2 sensors.

^ clutch chatter is normal in mustangs.. excessive clutch chatter is a throw out bearing.. and I didn't notice him saying that he had a cel.

...your wrong. Ford introduced "service engine soon" light in 2000 on most of their vehicles.

lol. did you read the title of the thread? lol. I am well aware that clutch chatter is normal in Mustangs. But, Clutch chatter is not squeaking at an idle. Clutch chatter occurs when you are taking off. The car vibrates excessively (basically shaking). Thats clutch chatter.

didn't catch the thread title.. my bad..

your clutch can in fact chatter at an idle as well..

stock flex plates suck.

it's a high pitched sound that.. nvm .. you know what it sounds like obviously.as far as the chatter..
the best I can do for you with the noises is to recommend lubricating the shift linkage and check the shift cable. The shift cable has a small seal, much like a valve seal, on the end to keep water and dirt out. If this seal goes bad then the water gets in and the shift cable starts rusting, usually resulting in a squeaking type noise.

I stand corrected. I guess that's what happens when you haven't bought a new car in over ten years...
