some synthetic oils claim to gibe u about a 5hp gain just from a oil change...how IDK but ive seen and felt results from using royal purple and lucas full synthetic....also full syn...cost about $7 a qrt...so oil changes run to about $50 for the filter n all....but u also dont have to change ur oil till 7000 miles instead...its better for ur engine because of special blends and what not in it..correct me if iam wrong but i think thats pretty much it...u get what u pay for.

theres no HUGE difference

its just a really good idea and better for your engine to use synthetic oil

the oil is the life of the car

btw the leading cause for engine failure to most cars is the oil pump...with synthetic oil the problem is decreased

the only real difference is that synthetic oil doesn't break down.

how does this help? well oil when subjected to heat and friction (which generates heat) can either burn (which they both do) or break down (only conventional or dino oil)

if your the type of person that no matter how you drive you change your oil every 2.5K to 3K miles. then conventional oil is really going to perform pretty much the same, but if your one of those "I drive it like i stole it, i change my oil every 5 - 10K miles" then go with synthetic.

oil isn't your main problem, it's the filter most filters only block particles of 11 microns or bigger, when the majority of particles that cause engine problems are 10 microns or smaller (when the collect they create "gunk") so basically when it comes to oil, go with whatever you feel, BUT DO NOT CHEAP OUT ON THE FILTER!!

check this site. www.bobistheoilguy.com and it will tell you everything....

like yeller said syn oil wont break down, but it is slightly thinner than conventional oil a 10w30 convention will feel heavier than a 10w30 syn, but in extreme heat or after a long time of use conv, oil will become a 0weight where syn. will be the same viscosity as when you bought it.

has anyone tried a heavier weight than just like 10/30 or so?

i used to only run 20/50 in my truck and my nissan. in SWFL it doesn't really get cold enough to need anything with a cold weather viscosity rating because even in the winter it RARELY gets below 40 for a few hours at night.....

plus the thicker weight would drown out some sound from valve tap...

thoughts?
