Your going to mess something up using cheap parts like that. but its your car, do what you will. and 40hp from a chip on a v6 has "IMPOSSIBLE" written all over it.

go to the track and wait until your arch enemy's car is left unnatended...
secretly install the chip in his car. work quickly as to not be seen.
leave and go back in a few days/weeks, and race him...make him look like a fool.

VICTORY!

Once upon a time I got my hands on one of these "devices" which we planned on testing at my automotive school.

The one we received in the mail was not only NOT a computer chip but it was not any type of computerized device at all. It was a resistor. It was literally a resistor that you can pick up from Radio Shack for 25 cents. Directions indicated that this "device" was supposed to be spliced in-line with the coolant temp sensor on the vehicle in order to vary the voltage received by the ECU. After studying the resistor we discovered that the only thing this thing does is trick the ECU to thinking that the engine is running colder than normal. THEORETICALLY this will cause the ECU to compensate in a way much like when the car is first started. It dumps more fuel, and leans out the air mixture.

I guess THEORETICALLY this could provide some performance gains since there would be excessive fuel being dumped into the cylinders, but on a completely stock Pontiac Sunfire we noticed ZERO difference in performance. The guy who had bought the resistors removed it after a week. He informed us that his gas mileage SERIOUSLY went down the crapper, and no performance was gained.

So that's my experience...
