How do I Replace the engine belt?


I need to replace the belt on my 97 mustang. engine is a 3.8. How do I work the tensioner to remove the old belt?

you want to pull the belt tensioner up with a wrench... its kinda odd... put the wrench on the end of the tensioner... and pull up... it spring loaded so it will come up with some strength then while its slakced a bit slip the belt of the water pump... it has no ridges its the easiest

then put it back on the same way you took it off

Put a 3/4" (18mm) socket on the tensioner pulley and turn counter clockwise to release and remove the serpentine belt.
