Magnaflow or Flowmaster?

Hey guys,

My buddy knows a guy with a custom exhaust shop and I got a pretty good price to have dual exhausts installed on my 2001 V6 automatic mustang. He gave me 2 options for cat-back exhausts...Magnaflow and Flowmaster. I am looking for a nice sound, but I'm not familiar with exhausts enough to know. I don't want it so loud that I can't hear myself think; but at the same time I want it to be loud enough so you can tell I made a modification and make it sound deeper. From what I've heard online so far, the flowmasters seem to have the deeper sound I'm looking for. The guy who installing them recommends Magnaflow.

Magnaflow or Flowmaster? That is the question...any advice would be much appreciated.

-Dan

I've heard that before too, but from the videos I'm watching on YouTube - I feel like all the Flowmasters are much deeper than the Magnaflows.

Another one of my buddies told me Flowmasters are deeper....ahhh!

magnaflows will sound like rice. flowmasters will give you more of a muscle car sound.

I do not want a rice sound at all, nor loud while on the highway. This may be a deciding factor to go with the Flowmasters. I keep reading that Magnaflows get ricey/farty sounding and I want deep.

Does this sound accurate to every1 else?

First off...a Muscle car sounds come from muscle cars...theres no exceptions or anything coming close...as for rice...dont use the term when you dont understand it...magnaflow may create a raspy sound because of our motors...my flowmasters tend to scream and dont really have a muscle sound to it...its not a import kinda loud sound and its not a V8 loud sound...its in between

this is what flowmasters and a offroad xpipe sound like...minus the quality of a good camera and audio...since it was dont on a Hi8 camera and not a digital

this post was helpful...I like the sound of yours - however, I am not getting the offroad xpipe. I'm not that familiar with exhausts - will this change the sound dramatically? I'm not really looking for the performance boost, although it doesn't hurt

Hpipes give the nice tone....xpipes tend to make it just loud...longtubes also help....im doing a SC so i rather have performance over sound...it will sound good enough for me with a SC in the front and LTs and a xpipe for the exhaust...tone quality and deep sounds is something i dont care about unless its adding more power

umm, first off, yeha you can have a muslce car sound without having a full blown muscle car. many people have V6 mustangs that sound like muscle cars but really are not that fast. second there are tons of people that have magnaflows that sound like ricers. I dont know if you realized that or not. dont just assume that i dont know shit buddy.

you can have a muscle car sound but if you listen to your vid you posted that green stang still had a sixxer whine up top... you will never have the full sound of a V8

the maganaflows don't sound like "rice" the are raspy up top ... and with that and our engines also being raspy up top... that doesn't help

im not assuming ...im telling you...people like your dont realize that a V8 with an exhaust compared to a V6 is a whole another ballpark...i wont even bother posting videos between the two because its obvious...my buddies cobra had a magnaflow exhaust it wasnt ricey....Ive heard Evos with magnaflow and it doesnt sound ricey...dont associate walmarts finest and 3a racing mufflers from pep boys with companies that deal with some bad ass cars...ive heard mufflers on certain cars that sound like shit and raspy...but thats the car its self and the muffler at times too...my car sounds nothing like a muscle car nor does it perform in any way at the moment...and thats with flowmasters...buddy

yeha, i do realize that its a compleatly different ballpark. six cyl engines are even fireing. magnaflows can sound very nice on a six, but up top at times can get a bit of a ricey tone to them. I am not saying its just magnaflows, it can happen to flowmasters also. personally i prefer the sound of flowmasters on a six. its just a personal preferance.

i think flows sound better to but muscle car ? leave that to the Grand Nationals and 9-10 sec. Mustang V6s...they usually have a power sound to them...even turbo 11 and 12 sec V6 mustangs dont sound like a muscle car...but they are fast like one

sure you dont have that bad ass sound of a V8. but you can have a system that sounds really nice, and at times can sound similar to an 8. I have heard 6cyl mustangs that sound really mean down low. sure its hard as shit to make a six suond really mean up top. but down low, some do sound muscle car like.
